Auto start both XP and AHP
« on: September 21, 2007, 12:20:05 AM »

OK.  I did a search a couple of different ways, but only one thread with no help for my question came up.

I just received all my new x-10 and AHP s/w and installed it and everything works great.... EVEN with the wireless as far away as  75 feet and in the basement!

I have macros set up with the wireless motion detectors to turn on lights and send emails and all works just fine!

Question:
WHEN (and it does about every couple of weeks here in Colorado) we lose power and the PC reboots, how do you:

1. set up XP to auto load past the log-in when no one is around?????

2. auto start AHP (I can't find any auto start option and it doesn't seem to auto start from the start-up folder??

Thanks
Frank

To start AHP each time your PC boots up:
Find your ActiveHome Pro icon on your desktop and right click on it the click Copy
then
click Start
mouse onto All programs
mouse onto Startup
Right click on Startup while your mouse is on it
click open All Users
right click on the screen that just opened and click Paste.

To have your PC start when power is restored: (may not be able to do depending on you BIOS)
FIRST.....do this at your own risk.
Turn your PC off.
Turn it back on and watch the screen.  Look for words that say something like F12 = setup.  It may be something else on your PC but for this example, ,let's assume it's F12.
When you see this, press F12.
This will take you to your BIOS settings.  Look for an option that has to do with power settings.  In there you should see an option for you PC to start whenever the power is restored.  Select that option and then select the option to save your settings. You will see on the BIOS screens how to navigate thru them.  Usually it's by pressing your up/down/left/right arrow keys.
All BIOS screens function a little different as far as where the setting will be, what it is called and how to save the setting once you change it and exit.

Frank,

To autologin under a specific windows account, go to:  http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/setup/tips/advanced/autologon.mspx

This works.
Hope this helps

Here is a page of good toys for Windows.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

The Tweakui will let you autolog-on with XP & many other things.

;D  EXCELLENT!!  Thank you so much!  When we are away and have a power fail and the computer restarts, I need to know that it will get back to windows and thus to AHP automatically.

This works.  Thanks
