....... I don't think we've lost... yet.

Have you written your congressman? Have you testified on Capitol Hill?  Have you petitioned the EPA for a new refinery?

I know I haven't.  I barely have time to sleep anymore.

No I haven't been invited to testifity... but I have asked my congressman to de-fund the EPA.

I've served my country for all my adult life (and before). I won't quit now.

Calm down.   The original article was from 2007 and Toronto, Canada.  I use CFLs with Socket Rockets and one swag light that uses the night light trick to kill the trickle current that makes some CFLs blink.  ZERO problems.
I don't SELL this stuff... BUT I sure do ENJOY using it!!!

Tuicemen

Although the original artical was from 2007 the life expectancy of CFLs would put many manufactured from that date and before still in use.
The fact that the CFL failed was not that it was used with X10 but more so it was used were it shouldn't have been.
Same can be said of candles! Place them on a christmas tree and your looking for trouble.
But maybe that what Dave  And vantech wants us to go back to ! rofl

You've got that bassackwards! The use of fluorescent's have been with us for over a century. Fluorescent lamps are old technology and has never been considered safe for household use... by most people... until recently. Because for decades Fluorescent was primarily used as an industrial or commercial form of lighting many don't realize it is so old.

Actually in my part of the world... using Fluorescent lamps pre-dates candles on Christmas trees as we didn't take up the Germain tradition until the early 1900's.

I prefer we move forward using modern and safe technologies that benefit the humans that live in our homes. Not accept antiquated technologies used only because of old ideologies that feed on an outdated political movement from the 1930's.

You don't need to be young to have an open mind to modern ideas... nor do you need to be old to remember (or research) past mistakes and learn and benefit from them. Turning your back on the new technologies and ideas... to embrace the old and familiar ones... is called regression. (Is that the right word anthonylavado?). CFL's is a regressive technology. A very old idea made new again. Some would prefer to FEEL good about their actions... without thinking about what they are doing... or why. That's OK... but it's not progressive... except by political definition.

OK maybe a bad example for you Dave  ::) :' Maybe I should have typed placing lit candles too close to your window covering. Or maybe in your part of the country window coverings are also predated by using fluorescent's.
It wasn't the light that was unsafe but the balasts. But then there are some that feel PCBs are safe.
New technology is often presented before safety is fully evaluated!
lead paint
baby cribs
Air bags..... the list goes on and on and will continue.

Your missing the point entirely! Fluorescent technology isn't new. It is very old and well known and understood. It uses a few less watts than the oldest known electrical lighting... but often at great risks. If we can not be honest about our ideas... we merely tell lies.

No Dave, I'm not missing the point!
I never stated Fluorescent technology was new nor that the compact fluorescent was!
Just like baby cribs they are constantly being made safer with improvements.
But even still and my point is: they must be used correctly!
Candles are older then fluorescents and very dangerous if not used correctly but they are still around!
And I don't see them going any time soon! rofl

...can't wait for the next X-10 sale- -  the X-10 Candle Controller! Buy a box of ten for $15.00 and we'll throw in...  that's right!  ...an X-10 Automatic Professional Candle Snuffer! But wait! There's more! It comes with instructions! (They're in old German, but what-the-heck.) Order now and we'll toss in a turn-of-the-century Wörterbuch! (You pick the century.)

Sorry. Interrupting a thread in mid-rant may be hazardous to my health. :D

Stay safe, folks. We're working with electricity, here, and blowing apart one of these lamps is not a good thing.

Yeah... I know some people are emotionally attached to the little CFL's (to say the least). And... reports of them burning down homes may be over exaggerated. But real caution should be used when considering CFL's. And it can't hurt to remember they're filled with Phosphors and Mercury as well.

Like Tuicemen pointed out... CFL's are nearly as old as Christ himself (or Christmas trees)... and have never been considered any safer than candles placed near curtains.

I merely tried to state the unsafe use of them could result in disaster! ;)
By no means am I trying to promote the use of them.
Although I do have some in use, I mostly have LEDs in use now.
