Hello Everyone,

Wanted to get your thoughts regarding the current AHP program.
Pleae feel free to post away regarding any possible additions or fixes you feel can be included to better the software.  Maybe you thought of a new macro? Or do you think the software can be improved with a tweak here or there? Or possibly you may have even discovered a bug in the software? Let us know!

Thanks!
Mike M.
X10.com Community Team

Personally, I am *INSULTED* / saddened / offended / angry over this post from MichaelM. >:( [I didn't reply immediately because I wanted to first see the response from the X10 Community.]

In addition, I don't understand the LEMMINGS-like response from many of the other forum members. :o

As a LOYAL X10 CUSTOMER for ~30 YEARS, I purchased one of the AHP/CM15A *DEAL* packages in June 2006 (against my better judgement :-[ - I was pretty content with my AH/CM11A setup but AHP/CM15A offered MACROS! :D 8) ). What a total P.O.S.!!! >:(

Yes, I read the previous TWO PLUS YEARS of complaints, but *SURELY* X10 Corp had FIXED the majority of those BUGs by now - keep dreaming folks. ::) :P

Either Michael Cole (aka the previous X10 Pro - and, AFAICT, the previous AHP/CM15A Manager) was TOTALLY CLUELESS as to how "Quality Assurance" and "Windows" worked *OR* X10 Corporation didn't give him the RESOURCES (time, manpower, MONEY) to do the job properly. ???

Michael Cole / X10 Pro either left voluntarily (or was let go) circa June 2006 and HE HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED!

Many, MANY, *MANY* Loyal (or formerly loyal? :-\ ) X10 Customers *DILIGENTLY* / *TIMELY* posted the problems / BUGs that they found in AHP/CM15A (over the years) and what was the response from X10 Corporation?

NADA! ZIP!! NOTHING!!!
[OPINION]

Michael Cole was never replaced on these forums because the *MANY* LOYAL X10 Customers *VOLUNTARILY* picked up the slack (patiently waiting for an "official" X10 replacement employee to appear). X10 Corporate Management (Always-aware-of-the-bottom -line) realized what a *GREAT* JOB these VOLUNTEERS were doing and decided NOT to fill Michael Cole's vacant position.

Need further proof? Where's the "Crabby SysAdmin" / X10Javier? Gone (since May 2006) - did you notice? And, again, HE HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED!

[/OPINION]

If the X10 AHP/CM15A Development Group *TRULY* wishes to know what's wrong with the AHP/CM15A, I humbly suggest that they utilize the same facility that all the LOYAL X10 VOLUNTEERS point the X10 Newbies to - ADVANCED SEARCH.

Kind, caring, generous, helpful soul / "Old Fart" that I am, I will shortly create a Non-LEMMINGS thread where I, and other LOYAL X10 CUSTOMERS, can create SINGLE / INDIVIDUAL / EDITED / UPDATABLE posts of LINKs to their own personal ARCHIVED posts DETAILING the problems / BUGs with the AHP/CM15A.

NOTE: Regardless of how this post of mine comes across to the masses (is BXVC -Bill- going to censor me *AGAIN* for FREE SPEECH / TRUTH?), realize that IN NO WAY am I pointing any fingers at the immensely helpful and accomdating MichaelM. MichaelMis just the "poor sap" that got assigned the MINOR responsibility of overlooking these forums (trust me - when it comes to his "Money Reviews", "X10 Forum Accomplishments" isn't going to buy him bus fare).

The folks that we need to WAKE UP here are folks like Alex Peder and Dave Rye:

For EVERYBODY!!!!

PMing MMallari or e-mailing him (Michael Mallari [michaelm@mail.x10.com] or nothing will be done. If he does not reply, keep doing it.

Dan,

Please lighten up on Michael.

Michael is the most decent, friendly, helpful, accommodating person you'd ever want to meet - I've had MANY conversations with him over the past year. Did you ever consider that Michael himself is being 'stone-walled'?

Instead of constantly encouraging EVERYBODY to E-Mail Michael, why not look up the E-Mail addresses of a few key X10 Management personnel "higher up in the food chain"?

How about:

  • Dave Rye at dave rye@x10.com - "Dave Rye is Sr. Vice President and Technical Manager of X10 (USA) Inc." (E-Mail addresses are "best guess"; descriptions are per GOOGLE)

    or

  • Alex Peder at alex peder@x10.com - "President and Director: Alexander E. (Alex) Peder"  (E-Mail addresses are "best guess"; descriptions are per GOOGLE)

Feel free to utilize GOOGLE yourself and add more to this *SHORT* list. ;)

Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

A few QUOTES from other members (in *THIS* thread) that I believe may feel the same way as I do:

Note: I'll update my Ideas list as new ones come to mind! ;) ::)
All good ideas, but let's be practical gang... X10 is in business and needs to make money. So, my suggestions:

For (future) sale from X10--

Gold Version AHP software. Brand new, with fixes incorporated, greater stability added, and functions improved for future newer plug-in modules like Speech . (It can announce, for example,  that someone is at the front door, the alarm is about to be set, the outside lights and garage door status, or just say "Good Night" before bedtime lighting.)

For more stability, this new software can be paired with the next generation interface, which is also more stable, has larger memory, contains additional enhancements like full RF control (sending and receiving), more flags, and is upgradeable for future ideas.

$50 for both? $50 each? (I can see the web site graphics now....) For what I have invested in X10 already, I'd gladly pay either price for stability and the opportunity of future additions to my home system.

I too am glad to see a commitment from X10 to look at our comments.

There are several known bugs that have been posted elsewhere on this forum. Is it sufficient just leaving them there or should they all be repeated in this thread to be noticed?

Fixes: ::) :)
There are several software bugs that need to be addressed for those that don't have OnAlert see Topic: Software problems v3.204  (Read 6260 times)
For those that have OnAlert (version 3.206) some of the problems were solved others created see Topic: Software problems v3.206 (OnAlert)  (Read 6911 times)

I was wondering why references to those already existing threads wasn't the first posting here.   ???

Guess I'm just not a quick enough typer! ;) :D ;D
Actually I'm surprised also Why No Other member pointed mmallari to the Software Problems & Bugs Section, many users besides myself spent some time posting problems and Bugs there! ::) ???
Also not one user directed Mike to the Wish List section which is full of wonderful suggestions! ::) ???
Looks like only recently posted ideas and bugs will be looked at! ::) :(
I hope that isn't the case! ;) :D ;D

NOTE: I'm posting this *BEFORE* I can resolve a FORMAT ERROR just to keep this post In-Sync with my "Non-Lemmings" post. I'll EDIT it "later"...

From my personal experience in the technical field, particularly when dealing with a customers / contractors / inter-departments, they don't want a song and a dance; they want a list of the issues that need to be addressed.

I think it's great the mmallari started this thread to collect the relevent information from the users. I'm sure he is aware of those other 2 threads; they are great places to mention issues if they were to be acted on in a timely manner.

To expect a programming department to read through 100's of threads with multiple posts and decipher what is valid and still applies, I really doubt we will ever seen Version 3.207; and if we did, chances are that many of our biggest concerns would not be addressed.

This is just the opinion of one X10 Forum Lemming.

Well, TakeItActive, you win the most difficult to read posting, ever.  I am not sure all you wrote, because I simply gave up trying.

Just because there are various highlighting options, it doesn't mean you have to use them all.

There is also some really wrong, when you pretend to offer a quote of someone else's posting, and you modify that quote.  Very wrong.  Very dishonest.   And by doing such "editing", it makes me wonder about everything you do.  Is everything equally of bad character?  I don't know, but it certainly doesn't help your cause to make me stop and wonder.

I agree with Walt2.  I find TakeTheActive to be one of the most irritating posters here. He regularly moves posts from one area to another without asking the OP's if they agree, and his style results in his posts being very difficult to read.

Actually, TakeTheActive you (as well as many others) may be shocked to hear that I agree with much of what you said!   :o

I think X10 in general has neglected this forum far too much!

Here they have a wonderful tool to get user feed-back about their product and it goes mostly unnoticed!  (IMHO)

Seriously, if X10 has been paying attention to this "gold mine" of user feedback, why are so many simple issues left unaddressed?

How many "Newer Version On Server" gripes should it take to get someone to address the problem!

So, no, TakeTheActive, I will not "censor" this, justly or unjustly.  I will leave that up to X10.

While I do agree with much of it, I can't condone the abrasive way you worded it.

You could get your point across without attacking.  You chose to attack instead.

As I told you way back when, you need to choose your words more carefully and stop making everyone else on this board feel like you are personally attacking them.

You appear to be rapidly wrapping rope around your own neck.  You did create the etiquette rules and yet refuse to live by them.

Again, I am tired of trying to counsel or police you, so I will leave it up to X10 and your own actions to decide what to do with you.

I would, however, appreciate it if you would stop jabbing ME personally about following the rules that you created and "censoring" a single post of yours!

Very sad... what started out as such an upbeat topic and the excitement that X10 appears to be finally listening and intends to do something about the issues users are having, gets derailed by some who refers to this X10 product as

What a total P.O.S.!!! >:(

Maybe it's just me and I'm way off base, but I'm having a hard time understanding how this statement and the rest of that post will help improve ActiveHome Pro.  ???

So, since TakeThe Active has taken the active in derailing what appeared to be in the best interest of the majority, then I am going to get some things off my chest...

The originator of this thread is an X10 employee but apparently he crossed the line with this post:

Personally, I am *INSULTED* / saddened / offended / angry over this post from MichaelM. >:(

Does X10 and their representatives refer to customers as:

LEMMINGS

 ???

Personally I want to know if that's the case before I buy another item, and it would change my attitude torwards doing my best to help their customers. If I'm a "Lemming" I may not be so eager to log on and help represent X10 in a positive manner here.

I really don't think TakeTheActive has X10's best interest in mind when he made this post, and I hope the people who truly represent X10 show that their customers are more important than this one person.

If X10 feels that my responses to TakeTheActive's insulting post have crossed the line, then so be it; warn me, ban me or whatever, but as long as I'm able to post, I will not sit idly by and watch anyone unjustly insult any X10 customers here on the forum without speaking out about it.

Anyone who feels TakeTheActive's post was warranted and will without a doubt improve ActiveHome Pro, please be quiet and just click him a Helpful.

Hi,

X10 probably has to update for Vista . plain and simple. But at least they asked for input.

Cool.

As for the rest...

Puck is one of the most knowledgeable and communicative persons here - and the communication part is important on a forum.
Would hate to see him censored - check this thread in a couple of months... (if the past holds...?)

Bill- (of wgjohns.com) has added more to the HA functionality of AHP than anyone - and all he gets from some is grief. (If you don't use IR you HAVE NOT automated)

http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=12834.45

Some people like to make noise and aggravate people. They are tiny. (GOOGLE is your friend : username) A shame anyone pays attention to them.

Happy X10 customer!

Well as Puck has indicated this topic has been derailed and the only way to get it back on track is to delete the post that caused it and all the off topic posts after that including this one. As a Comunity Organizer I could do just that but because of some changes requested on my part I will not step in and try to get this back on track. I will leave that up to the OP or another CO.

As an observation...

mmallari Started this thread and asked for everyones input. Was working good for awhile.
TTA gets mad and started a thread and asked for everyone to post a link to someother thread that answers what mmallari was asking here.  ???

Please everyone if you have input for Mike post it here! We will get back on track  :D.

Topic has been split as the current rant in this thread is not productive to the collection of information that will be forwarded to our engineers.

Thank you all for your input.

Yes, thank you BarrettJ!

Between you and mmallari, you may yet restore my faith that X10 is actually paying attention to these forums and we are not just being treated as "unpaid / unappreciated tech support".   :)

Please keep it up!

Hopefully with X10 and this community working together, we can iron out some of the problems and make AHP or it's successor and all of the X10 products for that matter truly plug -n- play!

A request for input is most definitely a positive sign that improvements are forthcoming.
Posting a rant is counter productive and uncalled for.
When someone asks for input they are asking you to contribute ideas, information, or suggestions to a project. Nothing else !
If you cannot make a contribution, then you should not post.

I would like to thank BarrettJ for splitting this thread.

I'm kinda of surprised - and VERY disappointed.  Are you implying that X10 is knowingly and willingly continuing to advertise and sell productss that are known to be defective?

I sure hope they help me remedy my problem - AHP locks-up anytime - and everytime I 'touch' the dimmer switch . . .  It does so at other times too, but I haven't isolated ALL of the triggers yet.

Please, please help me??

I can't speak (type) for what others are "implying". I can state IMHO some of the criticisms are over zealous to say the least. The CM15A (AHP) is cutting edge home automation technology. Is it perfect..... no, is it defective..... absolutely NOT.

AHP has transformed my HA system from a nice bit of push-button automation.... into a intuitive, modern, Voice activated, smart system. Now the software needs updated for Vista... and with input from users here at the forum... AHP will likely be EVEN BETTER.

Calling the CM15A "cutting edge" is like calling a new slide rule a "cutting edge computational device".

the X10 protocol is 30+ years old, patents have expired, and the technology is not compatable with modern home electronics without considerable tinkering.
