3-way switch wiring as normal wall switch
« on: October 07, 2007, 10:14:43 AM »

I ordered five WS467 wall switches and was sent WS4777 (three-way switches) as a "free upgrade".  The insert said to wire the switches as a normal switch, however, the WS4777 has three wires (blue-common, black and red).  I know the blue wire goes to common but what do I do with the red and black wires?  I'm not sure if both are wired to the remaining line or if I only use red or only use black.  Thank you for your help.

Red is the control wire from the Companion. Tape or cap it off in a single switch use with no companion.

There is a schematic of this in the WS12A/WS14A X10 information sheet dated 9-98.  I'm sure you can download and view this from X10 manuals.

Here is a link to the PDF instruction sheet for the WS4777

BLUE is your live wire in, BLACK is your load and RED can be capped off with a wire nut.
