help with active home and iwitness with xc18a camera
« on: October 13, 2007, 06:01:18 PM »

I used this a long time ago and it gave me a few problems but I cant seem to get it to work now. I have:
2.4ghz video receiver, one side is plugged into the wall and the other is plugged inside a working USB on my computer. My camera is an xc18A and I also have that white box with the antenna plugged up into another outlet in the same room with 4 AAA batteries that are in them. I downloaded the software, put in my registration codes for both iwitness and active home pro. I have My camera and everything set up on the right freq's as far as I can tell....C-4 is what I have both the receiver, the pllug for my camera, and the camera I selected in the browser for active home pro. It says it is recording but I am getting no image. It just has the screen up that says active home professional video monitoring. It shows it is recording on the right and at the top there is a green light where I put the camera in the screen on the top. I can't figure out why I am not getting any images. I've tried to play back the 'videos' it has recorded but everything I use (realplayer, nero, quicktime, WMP) says the file is corrupt and will not play them.

Help please!!!!

The white box with the 4 AAA batteries (I assume CM15A?) needs to be plugged into a USB port on the computer too, or the software can't talk to the X10 camera power supplies to switch them off and on.

You didn't mention that it was connected to the computer.  Is it?

Just a thought. ;)   :D

no it is not...I don't recall ever having it plugged in before. There is a 'fatter' jack at the bottom of it....not the normal skinny USB that I am used to...

And there is also a white jumper in the middle as well of this port...like you would find on the back of a hard drive or something to convert from slave to master or whatever

Now that the CM15A is connected to the computer, you will most likely need to do some setup in Active Home Pro and / or iWitness.

Sorry, I don't have iWitness, so someone else will most likely have to help you with that.

The two error messages I keep getting are as follows:

The activehome Pro USB interface isnt connected to your computer. To control your x10 modulules or store data in the interface, please connect the interface.

You can continue to make changes to your activehome pro configuration but your changes wont run until you connect the interface to your computer

If you think your interface is connected, check that the usb cable is plugged into your computer, the other end is firmly plugged into the interface, and the interfce is plugged into a working electrical outlet

and number two:

Your activehome pro system has the iwitness plugin installed and registered but the active home pro is unable to connect to the usb video capture device (VA11A)

Please check that the usb video capture device is plugged in and working properly check that no other x10 camera software is running, only one x10 camera application can be in use at a time.

To Get Windows to recognize the CM15A, unplug the USB cable from it, unplug it from the outlet and take the batteries out. Shut Windows down. Wait about 2 minutes, replace the batteries and plug it back to the outlet and plug the USB cable back in it.   Reboot the computer and restart Windows.

You should hear Windows tell you it has recognized it. You should hear a "beep".
