Lamp Module rated for 300 watts
« on: November 05, 2007, 07:05:26 PM »

I see that the lamp module is rated for a maximum of 300 watts. Is there any problem with plugging in something other than a lamp into it as long as it is under 300 watts? I'm thinking of using it for my computer monitor. I would not simply be turning it on or off, and ignore the dim switch.

I wouldn't! A slight accidental dim will destroy many electronic devices. Use an appliance module.

NO!

If you want to use X10 to switch off your monitor, get an appliance module. As Dave said, An accidental dim could be the beginning of the end for your monitor.

Even at full bright. The triac dimming device could modify the AC enough to affect the monitor.
An Appliance module would be best. Also many monitors use a soft start. So you turn off the AC it may or may not turn back on on return of the AC.
