Wall Switch Wiring
« on: December 30, 2007, 01:22:15 AM »

I went to install a new WS467 today, however when I pulled my exisiting switch out, I have 4 wires to my switch. The instructions do not mention anything about having 4 wires.

Which ones do I connect to the blue/black of the WS467?

It looks like you may have a 3-way switch. Do you have any other switches at say the other end of the hall or room that control the same light? Does the switch have ON & OFF markings on it or is it blank?

I believe the WS467 is just a standard X10 switch and not for use in a 3-way application.

This is for my hallway that has 2 lights and there are 3 switches to turn them on/off.

Switch1 at bottom of stairs, Switch2 at top of stairs, Switch3 at the end of the hall near master bedroom.

Is there a different x10 switch for this type of application?

I will check for markings on the switch.

Welcome to the boards enlite.

What you have is called a 4-way switch configuration. The switch with the 4 wires going to it is the middle switch. Go to this Link and it will show you how to wire X10 masters and slaves to get a 4-way setup working and which model switches you will need.

Don't count the ground wire. i.e. The pictured switch isn't the 4-way one.

...Go to this Link ...
Your link, preceded with "http:", for some reason, didn't work for me but ftp://ftp.x10.com/pub/instructions/4-way-wiring.pdf did.

Your right steven r didn't see it was a ground. Just seen the white paint on the copper and didn't look back far enough. Doh!

His circuit is still a 4-way, so iI got that right.  ;D    I fixed the link, thanks. Thats what happens when you type replies first thing in the morning.

I you can buy more companions and if wired correctly all can control the master. The link shows how to do it.

I am done being Shocked. I have a bird now. I Tell him to turn on the light, he flys to the switch and turns it on.

(its a joke) - for the people that are slow.
