DS7000 not recording my message

Hi, I'm new and have just finished setting up my DS7000.  Everything has installed well and I was able to program my phone numbers to be called by the system but when I try to record my "alert message", - set to install, press record and talk clearly into the microphone - after the 15 seconds of recording the record light goes off  - set back to run mode, plug in headphone, .......... no message, only a humming sound.  I have tried multiple times but nothing.  When I trip the alarm, it does call my cell but of course I get no message. 

When I first received the set I briefly set up the system on my table and tested all the components and was able to record a message then..... I was very happy and decided I would put the system away (until I could get time to install properly), took out all batteries etc, and 2 weeks later after installing (today), I'm not so happy.

Does anyone have any ideas?.... thanks in advance.

You are doing every thing right! ???
Try this:
    [li]Unplug from the outlet and phone jacks[/li]
    [li]Ensure you have a good battery installed[/li]
    [li]Plug in the ear piece[/li]
    [li]Flip console to install mode[/li]
    [li]Press record[/li]
    [li]Speak into the console[/li]
    [li]When finish speaking flip to run[/li]
    [li]Once the record light goes out flip back to Install then to run[/li]
    [li]If it works plug back into an outlet and the phone jack[/li]
    [/color]
    [/list]
    If this doesn't work then your dS7000 has failed! :( Contact customer service 800-675-3044 to see if you qualify for a replacement!
