New Apple iMac. need software for AHP.
« on: February 25, 2008, 12:30:37 PM »

If there's anyone out there who knows a way to get AHP to work with an iMac.  Would you please let me know!  I don't want to have to load Windows just to use my cameras again!

X10 doesn't make any software for Mac, so you're going to have to invest in something new. I've heard good things about Indigo:

Just get and install Boot Camp from Apple (it's free) on your new iMac. Install Windows XP or Vista. Now you have a computer that can boot as a full fledged PC or as a Mac.

Boot as a PC and install and use AHP just as you would on an ordinary PC. Believe me you will not have any problem. It works like a charm. My neighbor (who owns two PCs) and I just purchased AHP. He is having problems with timers that reset to 01/01 on both ON and OFF settings of the two computers. This kind of problem has been reported elsewhere on this site. I hope that X10 corrects sooner than later a bug that renders AHP completely useless.

On my Mac (booting as a PC), everything has worked without a glitch. My project (watering of lawn on even days of the calendar year) is now in the interface (CM15A) and fully functional. Because of the problem that I mentionned above related to timers, I even programmed my neighbor's project into his interface. Not bad for a Mac computer. Guess what's my neighbor next computer will be?

In response to MichaelC, Indigo does not allow uploading a sequence into their interface module, so you're stuck with having the computer on during the automation process. This observation is well spelled out on one of their site adds.

I guess Summeratlast missed the part where I said I don't want to load windows on my mac!  Since posting this, i began using VMWare Fusion and putting windows on the second monitor I connected.  It slows down my mac slightly, but it's been working just fine.  Until I can afford a real camera system, I guess I'll deal with these for a while longer.  As far as setting the AHP module to do what I need X-10 for... This is not an option as I use it for monitoring my security cameras, switching between cameras automatically, & recording all the action!  so Thanks anyway summeratlast, but please if you are going to respond, read what you are responding to carefully first.  A person buys a mac to get away from windows, not to turn it into a windows machine!  X-10 makes doing this a lot harder than it needs to be!

C'Mon X-10..... get with the game!  MAC'S taking over!  Get your developers up to speed!

Anyone else using AHP with VMWARE?  I am having trouble getting the CM15A to be recognized by the software in the virtual machine... not really a big surprise I guess...   but if anyone else has it working- I'd sure like to chat.

I gave up on AHP after it became such a hassle to run fusion all the time just to monitor my cameras!  I spent $249 on a Swann 4 Camera DVR, the x-10 cameras worked with it until i was able to afford to replace the cameras one by one also.  I would not suggest x-10 to anyone that had a couple hundred to spend!  if you're on a 99 dollar budget, then you just deal with the aggravation of x-10.
In response to your compatibility with the control module... make sure it's not going through a hub or your keyboard!  it will only be recognized if you connect directly into the mac.  and only sometimes at best.
