VISTA UPGRADE NIGHTMARE
« on: March 04, 2008, 09:36:00 PM »

I just upgraded from Win XP to Vista. In addtion to losing all of my stored jpgs ( Baby pics that my wife is ready to kill me for) and files from Excell and Access, I lost the data base from AHP. The program is intact, but I have only one room that made it through the upgrade. The CM15A is working fine and all the commands are being proerly executed.  Is there a way to download the CM15A to my program  to recreate my data base?
If not, what is the file name in which the commands are stored. Maybe I can undelete that file and resurrect it into my vista program.

If by commands, you mean the .ahx files created by AHP, they are all in C:/Program Files/ActiveHomePro.  In AHP under File, there is Open. Click that and a listing of all .axh files will be shown.

You may have a failing hard disk.  A good friend of mine who is an X10 user upgraded his XP system to Vista and had ZERO problems. All programs and files were in their proper places.

I had zero problems during the process and didn't lose anything.

Thanks for the input. Microsoft will not support transfer of any files other than files associated with a microsoft product. (Find that little pearl on their vista box.) My problem is that my wife stored a bunch of jpgs  in XP documents and settings that weren't associated with any program . Vista does not have "documents and settings"; so the upgrade saw this as trash. Why my settings for AHP didn't transfer over is anyone's guess. Either way, I recovered most of the jpgs with Winundelete, which has saved my marriage. I will do a search for the .ahx extension you mentioned to see if I can restore my commands. If not, as far as you know, there is no way to download the .ahx commands directly from the interface back into my AHP program, so I wouldn't have to re-enter all the rooms and modules and commands?

(stepping up on soap box and grabbing microphone)
I recently bought a Vista machine and was incensed to find out Vista will not transfer anything, via network, to or from the "Program files" folder.  Even when on a private home network with me signed in as "Administrator" on all machines. Really screws things up when you have a program that stores data in it's folder in "Program Files". It's like Gates thinks Microsoft is the center of the universe. It makes me nuts I tell ya!
