Newbie help (CM15A Problems)
« on: March 13, 2008, 04:58:34 PM »

Howdy, all.

New to the board, but I've been using an older generation (serial-based) X10 controller for many years and have just upgraded to the CM15A for its broader capabilities.

I have many modules (2 pin and 3 pin appliance modules) that I use to run a fish tank.  For some reason, the new controller is not turning any of them on and off.  No matter what alpha or numeric address I use on the modules, the controller will not trigger any of them.  Even when they're plugged into the same socket!  Wrinke: I'm in a new home, but I don't know what that would make a difference with regard to being in the same outlet.

The USB cable I'm using is 10' long, so proximity to the PC isn't an issue.
I've cleared the history, and there are no yellows or reds
I've experimented with other modules, just in case

Question... do the batteries have to be in the controller or can it function without them?

Any help would be appreciated.

The batteries will hold any downloaded timers and macros to continue functions if the PC is off.

Ok, so that's a non-issue.  Still trying to figure the rest out.

Hammerhead since you upgraded from Active Home(serial based interface) there are some things you'll have to change your way of thinking about!
If you used the import option to import your AH set up to AHP you most likely will have to through it out and rebuild it from scratch! :(
Unless of coarse you had a simple setup  but even still there are some issues that will pop up! :(
First unplug any other transceivers(they may not be needed)

Improper configuration of AHP! ;)
Make sure all devices in AHP are configured correctly(this is especially true for other transceivers if needed)
There is a difference between monitored and transceived house codes!

Tuicemen, thanks for your reply.

Although I did import an old X10 file, I started from scratch again with a new file and it's still not working.  This shouldn't be so complicated.  I'm using simple 2-pin and 3-pin appliance modules and none of them are being triggered by the interface.  All of the house codes that I use on the modules are appearing in the "find other computers" grid, so I know they're being seen.  But for some reason it seems that no matter what I do, I just can't get them to turn on or off.  If I can get it to do that, then I can rebuild my macros.

What gives?

Thanks!

Hammerhead:
[li]In AHP go to "Tools" [/li]
[li]Then "Hardware Configuration"[/li]
[li]Make sure your "Monitored House Code" is set to  the letter that most of your modules are[/li]
[li]Then  make sure you set your "Transceived House Codes"  [/li]
[li]Then click update interface[/li]
[/b]
Hope that helps ;)

No dice.  Still not working.  Is it possible I have a defective controller?  Is there a way to check?

If you have done all that and still can't control a module  even connected in the same outlet then it Is most likely the unit is defective! :(
