Argggh!

I've been using the CM15a since it came out (first mistake).  After living through the million software updates and two hardware updates X10 and I got into a fairly comfortable relationship - it worked most of the time, and I learned to live with some idiosyncracies.

Lately, and for no apparent reason, the CM15a has lost the ability to keep track of time!  It seems to gain a few hours a day.  My CM15 has to be kept disconnected from the computer because it would crash my computer when the computer went to standby.  Also the electrical sockets near my computer don't work very well (not all my appliances respond).  I have found the perfect plug in the center of my house, and it has worked well for months.

I've changed the batteries (not that that should matter...)

I've re-synchronized it with the computer about 5 times, within 2 days it is completely off.

I'm probably going to order a new one, but I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts.

Clearly a problem with the module.  Ordered a new one and now it works again.  Guess they aren't made to last forever - still you'd think the time keeping function would be fairly simple...

When did you get your first CM15?

I got AHP and the CM15A in July 2005 and it's still happily running almost 3 years without a hitch.

Can't remember when I got it, but it was within a few months of the release.  I'm now using the old CM15a as a glorified transceiver (replacing two transceivers).  The new one keeps time just fine though it got screwed up by exactly one hour a few weeks after the start of DST.

The CM15A does not know about the new time zone dates.  It's not a problem if it's always connected to the computer.  If you have it disconnected from the computer you have to adjust it four times a year.  The Saturday before the new DST start, the old DST start, the old DST end, and the new DST end connect the CM15A to your computer and leave it until the following Sunday morning.  The software does not have to be running but the computer and the X10 driver must be running.  That will adjust the CM15A's time at the proper time and keep you in sync.

Do you know for sure that this is true?  I thought the CM15 only kept everything in UTC and the software downloaded the times appropriately (i.e. a different UTC time during DST rather than EST).  This WOULD explain my one hour difference, though.  I can't keep my CM15a connected for two reasons:

1) I get crashes when computer tries to enter standby
2) Outlets in the computer room don't reach all my modules well

I guess I'll have to do the 4 times a year sync...
