Timer no longer working
« on: April 05, 2008, 11:41:38 AM »

Hello,

I have used a timer to turn my front lights on and off for a couple of years now. For some reason it is no longer turning the lights on in the evening. The timer is set to turn on 30min after dusk and off 30 minutes before dawn. If I turn the lights on manually they do turn off in the morning. I've tried everything I can think of to resolve the issue (changing settings, clearing the interface and re-downloaded).

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Randall

Update:

I took a look in activity monitor and it looks like the timer is working but the ON command is not being sent at the time specified in the timer. Latest example would be timer shows ON at 8:17pm and monitor shows the command was not sent until 10:17 (after I had already turned them on manually).

I have used a timer to turn my front lights on and off for a couple of years now.

If the timers worked fine for two years.... I don't think I would change them... they would seem time tested.

Assuming you done all the basic clearing of the CM15A, including removing batteries, and all power for an hour or more. Then resetting with fresh batteries.....

I would check the activity monitor and see for sure the OFF signal is sent. Then I would use the AHP software to make sure that the CM15A can actually turn the switch ON/OFF. It could be a failed switch... or just a new device on line that is sucking the signal, or producting too much noise.

Could it be.... your time-zone is now incorrect?

I can see both ON and OFF commands being sent. OFF command is being sent at the time specified in the timer. It's only the ON command that is not being sent at the time specified. Time zone is correct. Everything works fine sending manual commands. It's only the ON command in the timer that seems to have an issue (sent two hours late).

I also just noticed in the activity monitor that the ON command does not repeat and the OFF command does. The ON command has 3 total entries, the OFF command has 6. The timer has the repeat box checked. Any ideas why everything with the OFF command looks good but not with the ON command? That seems really odd to me.

Well... Once again I find myself in the land of X10 mystery... My system has been fairly stable for the past year or so. Now I'm back to wondering about the technology. In an attempt to resolve this I:

Cleared the interface
Unplugged the interface and removed the battery
Let interface sit for 20min
Deleted the timer
Recreated the timer
Placed a brand new battery in the interface
Reconnected everything
Downloaded the newly created timer

Same or should I say similar results. I have verified time zone, system time and all pertinent settings I could think of. Attached are screen shots of interface settings, timer settings and activity entries. The timer is still executing the ON command two hours late (followed by a new OFF command that I have never seen before) while executing the associated OFF command at the appropriate time. Note also the activity log shows a single instance of the ON command and double instances of the OFF command. Makes no sense when you see that the repeat box is checking in the timer settings. Notice I cleared the log and everything is in sequence.

Everything works normally using the AHP console to turn lights on and off. All remotes work fine as well. Issue seems limited to only the ON command in the timer (two hours late).

Please take a look if you can. I'm hoping someone can see something I'm not. This seems pretty simple and straight forward to me but I can't for the life of me figure it out.

Thanks,

Randall

From your Pics I see macros getting triggered not timers they aren't the same!

If you are infact using a timer to trigger a macro(with more then one device) then you shouldn't be using the repeat function in the timer! ;)
Also you have it set to come on/off at dusk/dawn these times will rarely be 15 min after the time displayed! ;)

If you can post your AHX file or send (e-mail) me a copy I'll have a more in-dept look! ;)

Thanks Tuicemen. It's not a macro. I created the timer by clicking on the + sign under timer. Not sure why it shows up in activity monitor as a macro. Up until now I've never had an issue with the delay setting, now it's a consistant two hours late (verified it again last night). I'll email the file you requested when I get home.

For some goofball reason timers show up as macros in the Activity Monitor so do real macros.  In order to figure out which is which you have to look at the times each ran.

Sorry for the delay getting back to this. I setup another time the other day to control a light inside the house so I could see when it was going on and off. There were no problems whatsoever with the new timer. On top of that, the timer I originally posted about started turning on and off at the correct times. No other changes anywhere. Go figure. I don't know if I should delete the newly created timer or not. Am I going to have the same problem as before if I do? Does anyone have any thoughts on what is going on?

I have another question? I've seen some posts that mention older and newer AHP models. Have some of these bizarre issues been resolved in a newer version of the controller? If I knew for sure a newer one would be more stable I would pay the cost of a new starter kit.

This particular issue seemed a bit ridiculous to me.

Thanks for your feedback.

I have one other question. Is there any way to see what code is stored on the controller?

Unfortunately no, not at present time! :(
Possibly X10 will add this ability but I'd be surprised if it happens anytime soon! :( ::)
