Everything WAS working....
« on: November 24, 2008, 12:33:22 PM »

...Then we installed a hot tub/spa.

I have the cma15 controller and a number of x10 modules around the house.  I originally had to add a coupler and extend the antenna to get everything to work but once I did everything was pretty solid.  Been great for about 7 months.

     ...THEN...

We bought a spa and ran 220/60amp service out to it  Since then I've noticed hardly ANYTHING programmed in my CMA15 is working.  I don't know what else it would be but I'm guessing its sucking up the signals?  Is there a filter I can use for this?  Anyone else run into this?  Most things still work of the palm remotes, its just the triggered events that seem to be having issue.

The spa is 1999 Sundance Optima if that makes any difference..

Thanks for any thoughts/help in advance.

Before spending money on filters, you can verify that it is the spa, and not something else fairly easily:
Turn off the breaker(s) going to the spa. If the system returns to normal, then you have found the culprit.

X10 can act funny... but rarely in a way that can't be explained.

The fact that "Most things still work of the palm remotes" hits me as curious. If you have a true signal sucking issue... why doesn't it prevent the same signals [from the CM15A] from reaching the plugged or wired in X10 devices... despite how it is initiated [macro or PalmPad].

Noam has a good point about testing your theory before buying filters.

If testing proves that the new Spa isn't the culprit... it may still be the cause. Installing the new breaker likely caused the main breaker to be shut down... maybe more than once. Double check your macros if any run on your computer... and make sure your lastest macros are the ones updated to the (CM15A) interface. Then a do a complete gleaming (remove from PC, Power,USB, and battery removal) of the CM15A.

It seems odd but that's exactly what happening.  The palm remotes seem to still work everything.  I the macros from the cma15 not the computer.  I have already cleared the memory and reinstalled them all.  Even removed the batteries and reinstalled them (maybe ill try new).   I'll have to verify with the breaker and get back with you on that one though.

Thanks for the input though...

Are you using some other transceiver? Maybe a TM751 or RR501?

THANKS for all the help guys!!!  It's working again!  The issue WASN'T the tub at all.  I turned the tub off and the issue persisted. So I could pretty much rule that out.  I actually just lucked into the solution/issue.  Being yesterday was Thanksgiving we were having the family over and decided to use the seldom used dinning room.  Well, long story short that's when I noticed the switch for the chandelier was faulty as I could not get the light to come on or work correctly when they did.  Swapped out the switch and all works well again!

The failure just happen to co-inside with the hot tub installation.  So always consider everything, its might not be the obvious.

Thanks..

I don't know .. its actually the second switch we had issues with.  The other was a slave back when I first installed everything.  No matter where I moved it, the system had issues.  I'm not writting this switch off yet.  Will try it in another location and see what happens...

So, was the "bad" switch an X10 switch ? And was it a 2-way or 3-way ?  Just curious..............congrats on your problem solving.
