Remote turns on ahp but ahp doesnt
« on: January 20, 2009, 01:05:17 PM »

Hi all

I am testing my house today to see if there is any noise in the lines. I have an apliance module AM466 set to b1 and to that i have a radio connected to that so i can hear it come on. after running up and down the stairs i said hey dummy, use th remote to trip it and stop going up and down the stairs.
Heres the problem, i can turn it on manually with AHP by clicking on and off. But when i use the remote which is set to B1 it turns on the switch in AHP but doesnt turn on the module. same as with turning it off. The rempte interacts with the switch on AHP but Ahp doesnt send the signal out.
and this is even weirder, in the same room that i found this out i have a SR227 wall outlet connected to a thermostat controller set to E1 now when i switch the remote to E and press on it trips same for off.

Try moving the AM466 to the SR227 outlet.  Make sure the outlet is on and try sending the B1 on command again.  It's possible that the original location for the AM466 may be on a different phase than the CM15A and the SR227.  In some cases, the X10 signal can have trouble crossing from one phase to the other.

sorry......... this was a simple user error and newbi mistake. In ahp i didnt save the config when i designed or add the module. it works now.

BUT WITH THAT SAID I CHECKED THE WHOLE HOUSE AND FOUND A FEW PLUGS THAT ARENT RECEIVING THE SIGNAL FROM AHP. THE MAJOR PROBLEM AREAS WHERE IN THE KITCHEN AND IN THE LIVING ROOM.
I went to the forums and researched powerline noise. I am just guessing the noise is probably coming from the fridge and the tv from the living room and am looking for noise filters

Excellent troubleshooting! We "old timers" love it when newbies "read the product instructions" and "search the forum" for information.  #:)

Why guess? Pull the plugs on the TV and fridge and see if that fixes the problem. Should I assume you are using some sort of phase coupling?

not yet,  process of elimination. first i am going to un plug all major apliances and tv's and see if thst improves the signal to my problem areas. if that doesnt work then i am going to install a 2 wire phase coupling as discribed in the x10 trouble shooting thread. but if it does i will start plugging stuff back in one at a time while testing in between to isolate the source of my gremlins. hopefully by tommorow all will be well

I followed a simple test from smarthome today to see if i really did need a phase couple. i pluged in an apliance mo to a radio ito an outlet that i knew worked and switched it on and off via remote. then i pluged it into an outlet that didnt work and tried to urn it on and no luck. then i turned the oven and tried again and like magic it came on. so i am ordering a phase coupler from smart homes today

As a mechanic once told me.. the difference between a real mechanic and a shadetree mechanic:  "A real mechanic only replaces or repairs parts that need it. While a shadetree mechanic simply replaces parts until things eventually work."

It's always better to test than guess. Mapping your circuits will likely pay big dividends also.

all other lights and appliances are working great with the timers and macros

help please  B:(

The WS467 and AHP timers have a little hick up.

Try setting the switch in AHP as a lamp module instead and give it a try.. Worked for me and others

........ i have one light that AHP timer cant turn on (when the timer trigger AHP show the light on but the light its physically off), but if i turn the light on manually AHP timer can turn it off.

That is most often a problem of dim (or brighten) by 100 percent as opposed to off and on. So a light can turn on (although be completely dim by 100%) and therefore not work.

Changing the setting to off and on... as opposed to 100% and 0%... might solve your problem. Another simple fix.. for that macro only in AHP change the switch to [instead] be represented by a 2 pin appliance module. Since AHP knows an appliance module cant dim... the fix is almost automatic.

I don't know. Maybe someone is dimming your one light to dark... but not the others. Or maybe the way the macro was constructed is slightly different. The test should tell.

ok this is what i get,  first in AHP i change the WS467 for a LM465 and it didnt work, its making the same, when the timer trigger in AHP it turn on and 100% bright but the light its off, now if i turn it on in my IR remote or in AHP manually it turn on. its weird because if the lights are already on the AHP timer can turn it off. (it just can turn it on?)

next i try one by one with this 3 modules in AHP and they work perfect with the timer:  WS13A-L, LM15A and AM486
they turn on and off perfect.

another thing, i have 3 table lamps each one on a LM465  and they're working great with timer and macros with dimm,  so i think this problem is on the WS467's only because the LM465 can turn on and dimm with timers and macros just fine.

what can be the problem here???

P.D. in my other house i have a WS467 and it work perfect with the timer and a macro with dimms, but thats the only module in that house, its alone with the CM15A

Just to be sure......You are downloading the timers and macros to the cm15a right? After you mad the module changes.

What version on AHP do you have?
