lm465 problems
« on: March 10, 2009, 09:21:29 PM »

here is the problem

i've tried 2 different LM465 modules in one room, i've also tried putting a transever in that room.

the LM465s do not always respond to commands, on my AHP computer, i can see the RF commands being sent, but the lamp modules do nothing.

i'm trying to control the lamp with a palm remote in the room.

any ideas?

More info needed. Is the palm pad remote working? Are you new to X10 devices? Do you have the transceiver plugged into a receptacle near the lamp module when using the palm remote? Do you have a security system installed?

Thanks,
Bob

the problem is limited to that one room, i'm semi-new to x10 devices.

no security system

further information,

i can control the 'questioniable' lamp fairly well from anywhere else in the house, but in that room from a palm remote, i put a transever module in their on the same branch circuit with no noticeable improvement.

their is nothing in that room or near that room that that should be generating any RF interference.

i'm also not logging any communications coming from the palm remote from that room.

Do you have any power strips in that room or even nearby?
I found a signal sucking $3.00 walmart power strip was sucking my x10 signal in the bedroom (I realize how that sounds). Anyway, unplug stuff until it works.

When you try the put the transceiver in that room...what type transceiver.

When you say logging...I take you mean in Active home pro..so where is your CM15 from that room. Maybe your Cm15 is to far from the room to see the RF from the remote. The cm15 does have poor Rf receiving.

and if you are using the cm15a and another transceiver they might be fighting each other. If the transceiver is a tm751 you need to be sure to set the cm15 to not transceiver the same house code as the tm751.

i have a CM19 in another area of the house, it picks up the rf everywhere in the house, even from 'that' room, but the fixture in that room does not always respond.

That is because the LM465 only response to a PLC signal, not RF.

What transceiver did you put in the room with the LM465?

Do you know for sure (100%) that the transceiver and the LM465 are on the same circuit breaker?

Have you tried the previous suggestion of unplugging everything? And make sure you unplug everything that is on that breaker (not just stuff in the same room).

P.S. The CM19 does not work with AHP... you mentioned your "AHP computer" in the first post.

Fischb22,
I think you have just solved your on problem. you either have a worn out receptacle in that location or a poor connection attached to that receptacle in that room. If you aren't electrically challenged turn off the circuit breaker to that receptacle and check and/or replace that receptacle. If when you plug something into that receptacle and the plug feels loose in the receptacle the receptacle is badly worn and should be replaced. If on the other hand the plug feels firm in the receptacle it could be a loose connection on one of the wires supplying power to that receptacle. Remove the receptacle cover plate, remove the receptacle from the wall box, and check how the wires are connected to the receptacle. If the wires are just plugged into the back of the receptacle use a very small screw driver and release them. Form the wire into a semicircle loop and secure them under the screws on the side of the receptacle. Replace the receptacle in the wall box, replace the receptacle cover, and turn the circuit breaker back on. Now firmly place the module into the receptacle and I think you will notice a noticeable improvement in the operation of the module.
From your description of your problem I almost guarantee it is a loose connection in electric feeding this receptacle. I too have a CM19A and it does a wonderful job of controlling everything in my system. It controls flawlessly, I wish I could say the same for the CM15A.

Let me know if this helps.
Till Later,
Bob

unplug the lamp module. plug in a lamp into the receptacle and turn it on. Now jump up and down a few times on the floor and observe the light and see if it dims or blinks.

Let me know

...i've also tried putting a transever in that room.

What transceiver did you put in the room with the LM465?

You have yet to answer this simple question... it helps with us trying to understand what you have already done.

>That is because the LM465 only response to a PLC signal, not RF.

really? the other 3 i have work with the palm remote.

They work with a palm pad only when the RF is transceived to a PLC signal. As you stated, you have a CM15A transceiver for your system.

i can control the 'questioniable' lamp fairly well from anywhere else in the house, ...

Just to be clear, you have moved the lamp & the LM465 to a new location and it works? If so, and if just that one location does not work reliably, then you have a PLC signal integrity issue.... noise, signal sucker, phase issue.
