switch question / 3 position setup
« on: March 30, 2009, 10:56:18 AM »

OK... here's my setup.  I have a long stairwell with two 3 position wired switches at the top and bottom of the stairwell.  The switches control a light way at the top.  I want to install a light in the wall at the bottom of the stairwell but I'm unable to run a wire from the top light to the bottom light (so the switches can control both lights).   The new light will be mounted near some power wires I could use in the wiring.

How could I add a switch to the wall (possibly at the top and bottom of the staircase) so I can turn this light on and off?  Is it possible to replace the 3-position switches I have now and have the switches locations I have now and have both lights turn on?  Could I some how have a motion sensor turn on the lights instead?

I would assume I would need some sort of receiver behind the new light fixture?

thanks in advance.

Check out the attachments and let me know if you understand them. The AFTER circuit uses a XPFM Fixture Module in the box where the line comes in from the breaker box. The other box will just be used as a junction box. Both boxes will have blank covers. You will use 2 wireless X10 switches and a TM751 transceiver module.
Let me know what you think.

Till Later,
Bob
