"Tinny" voices in PC Companion
« on: April 13, 2009, 02:25:22 PM »

Bit of an odd issue this time.   when i sample the At&t Audrey voice from the control panel of my computer it sounds correct.   But when playing thru PCC the voice sounds "tinny".  Any ideas?

It is a 16khz voice if that helps

The only thing i can think of is does anyone else use a 16khz voice with pcc?  I can't find any settings for anything.

16 Khz or 16 bit?  There's a big difference.

it does say 16khz  -  http://www.nextup.com/attnv.html

from AT&Ts site(maby refering to the demo voices:
"The speech output audio format is a simple WAV (a.k.a. RIFF) file. The sample rate is 16KHz 16-bit linear, i.e. 16,000 samples per second, each sample a 16-bit integer, mono (not stereo)."

Anyone have any ideas?   PCC is the only program that does not use the voice properly.  I have been scouring up and down trying to find an answer.  Hate to say it but i'm running out of resources

What is PCC?  In my world, PCC is a type of streetcar.

Elfmaze
Sorry for the slow reply.
I've been busy at the log cottage and will be for some time as I've finally got around to getting the inside chinked. :-[ ::) :'
I haven't been able to recreate your issue here have you tried to reinstall PCC?
I noticed while trying to install it on my laptop I got some unexpected errors on starting. A reinstall fixed it! ::) :'
Also others have reported issues with net frame work and a reinstall of it fixed their issues with PCC.
Since PCC uses the MS Speech SDK same as BVC you should experience the same issue with it.
If a reinstall doesn't cure your issue Email me and I'll dig a little deeper!
I am able to get email at the cottage using the neighbours wireless but it is to slow to sit at their fire pit and get on the forums.
