You have to realize that not all of us here are from California.  Here in the midwest, thongs are banned at most pools.  We all have different standards of decency, and if x10 wishes to cater to the entire country, they should err on the side of caution.  In most of Europe, topless swimming is the norm, but not in the USA.  In the Mid-East women hide their faces.  It's hard for a company to be respectful to all cultures, so, IMHO, X10 should stick to selling the product, not underwear.

I'm from Kansas myself and have lived in many other places.  I understand what you're saying but in the end it's up to X10.  People have been complaining about the girls for years.  X10 must have their reasons.  I'm sure they know what they're doing.

I'd like to see X10 make it easier to find products on their site.  You can spend a lot of time there clicking around trying to find something.  Maybe that's what they want, lol.  But it'd sure be nice to have a site map with links to every single page on their site.  So much stuff is hidden there and you have to dig around to find it.

Also quit it with the scantily clad chick in suggestive poses.
I refuse to go back to x10.com until they clean it up and go pro.

"The previous content of this post violated the posted X10 General Forum User Etiquette policy and has been removed"
Obviously you have never worked for a Fortune 100 company and don't have much of a clue about sexual harassment liabilities.

In the 90's I worked for a company that was sued for sexual harassment because they permitted engineers to hang the famous Rigid Tool calender in their cubes. The corporate attorneys predicted the company would lose the suit and the 27 billion dollar a year company folded like paper. The Corporate Council's reasoning was that the bikini models had nothing to do with the products Rigid Tools made and therefore in a liberal court it could be construed as a form of harassment to the females working for the company. An out of court settlement ensued and the person launching the suit retired early.

I suspect the IT department for my present employer used similar reasoning; that the web page graphic content has no connection to the products being sold and therefore opens a door they do not want open.  Could be something totally different, I don't know, they block You Tube and a whole host of other sites also. I will consider your last statement as trolling and ignore it.

Wow! you guys have been busy! Good suggestions and I like the way this post is going. Thank you to everyone who's posted so far.
First, I'd like to address and clear up a few things.

So whadda ya saying here Duncan?. "Tell us how to sell more product but don't comment on the marketing attributes of the website". Well take this or leave it, I really don't care.

Commenting on the website is open in this discussion. BUT, and its a big but, the main goal that I am trying to achieve is to determine what your opinions are when it comes to our Kits and Sales packages. So far, the feedback has been great and very useful.
Please try to think of this as a survey. I don't build our packages or have the authority to change the website or the e-mail, but I can pass comments and criticism up to those who do. This does NOT guarantee a change or a new deal, unfortunately. It will still be in the hands of the higher-ups to ultimately decide what is created/changed/etc. But, if I can use everyone's comments to make a case for including phase couplers in a package or a low price add-on remote to bump a order over the minimum for free shipping, that will be beneficial to everyone.
Believe me, there are plenty of people here who would love to take the website in a different direction. At the same time, there are a equal amount who like it the way it is. Internally, we have the same argument that everyone in this forum is having. As of right now, we have been trying to transition over to a less "sexy" style, hence the dinosaurs. If you guys like this better, let us know. I can tell you that we get as many "Where'd the girls go?" e-mails we get "Thank you for no girls" e-mails. Like I said in the first post, its a balancing act, and we try to make  all of our customers happy.
To go along with that, don't be afraid to use the "Boring Button" we have on most of our pages. It is reviewed by most of the important people at X10, so comment away. Just make sure that your comment is civil, and it will be read. If you like that there are less girls on the site, you can comment on that too. Positive comments will hold just as much sway as negative ones will.

Thanks everyone again who is participating! I would like to hear from everyone out there, so even if you only own 1 module, or are just considering placing a order, I'd love to hear from you too.

There's one thing I'd like to let you know Duncan.  I do almost all of my shopping online and have for years.  I must say that X10 has one of the quickest order processing and shipping processes of anyone I've dealt with.  Great job!

I have stayed away from the discussion of the X10 website until now, but several of the recent posts have encouraged me to contribute my two cents.

I believe that X10 added the “ladies” to the web site soon after they began marketing the video cameras.  While these are supposedly targeted for security purposes, it would seem that X10 is suggesting other applications aimed at a different clientele.  The fact that the X10 website has become so graphic is the reason I never recommend that site to anyone.

If people are interested in that kind of material, there are certainly websites that will cater to their interests.  I stumbled across a few years ago when researching a high-speed serial data link marketed by Cypress Semiconductors that was called “Hot Links”.

Maybe this kind of advertising is appropriate for a site that now seems focused on selling video cameras.  For those of us who use X10 strictly for automation equipment, it does not seem appropriate.  My guess is that their advertising department is dominated by a bunch of kids barely out of high school.  And their target audience is not much older.

All right guys, the fighting is GOING to stop... the reason I quoted the above reply, is due there is bashing of x10 employee's. I wasn't alerted of this behavior until today, and I have got to tell you, I am not happy. We are called just out of high school teenagers? We actually do know what we are doing, and have been doing it for a long time. I want nobody to reply to me. But rather be ADULTS, and apologize to each other if you say anything at all.

We asked you guys for opinions, not respond to others opinions with a negative attitude. Duncan has only asked for you to give yours. If you agree with someone elses, sure please say that, if you disagree, ok, you can say I disagree but here is mine... and call it good.  That is what we asked for.

Oh, and we will not be commenting on why we do what we do, or if it works. We are the marketing department, it is our job to know what we are doing, so assume we do. X10 is still around aren't they?

Thank you,

Duncan  :)+

You said there was allot of packages? What do you think the best automation package is right now?
With and with out the CM15A!!

There is a section to post on the website it does give people a place to rant and rave but also X10 might get some ideas of what their customers want to see!!!

Nicely said, thank you. :)%

That was way out of hand. We dont need that style of behavior here.

The job X10 has done and is still doing has been great. Yes a few things we all didn't like lasted a while but lately have slowed down, even the one today was like the past, no so called porn at all.
But it seem we forgot our own rules and jumped off topic here. If I was X10, I would be upset too.

Now for my 2 cents. The deals you offer now our great. No one can beat the 4for1 or 5for1 deals. Never let those go.

But as few have suggested, Offer deals not only on the toys but offer some on the Fixes needed to make X10 even better. Filters and Coupler as such. Maybe have X10PRO stuff on a deal also.

Mega deals are nice. I for one am not a newbie to X10 ( Not by comparison to the Oldtimers here in the forum) But have 2 nice setups at home and one at my business with the whole nine yards. I for one wont be intersted in the BIG package deals. No room for them. Most packages come with items I wont need, my shelf with leftovers and extras of X10 stuff is full.

What does also get my interests are new Item, Anything NEW. Lately I find myself looking for X10 stuff in AU or UK, just because their stuff looks different and cool.
BUT, please don't push any items to the market until the stuff is checked and cleared for bugs, eg, V3.326.and VA12A. It doesn't help X10 buyers like us to keep the interest if the stuff we get is not working properly.

You know, I guess I've been very lucky with the phase and noise issues.  A $1.00 phase coupler capacitor solved that issue for me and there's lots of other easy ways to handle it.

The noise, I'm curious about because I haven't experienced even one hiccup running X10 for a couple years.  Every light in my home is CFL.  I have a notebook charger plugged in all the time.  I also have lots of wireless devices running and haven't experienced any interference.
Good for You!
