I have many items connected and operating for a long long time now.  Sadly, my PC died and now I have rebuilt it with a new install.  Is there a way to auto detect the devices connected?  I didn't make any records of the device types or module addresses.  Is there an easy way to get it all back operational?

In a word... "No".

If you don't have a copy of the .ahx file that your old AHP install was using, you are going to be starting from scratch, I'm afraid.

FYI... Once you get things set up again, you can use "Save As..." in AHP and tell it what to name and where to save your .ahx file.  Once you do this, that will be the default name and location AHP uses to save and load your .ahx file.  Personally, I created a new folder in my "My Documents" folder and had it save there.  That way whenever I back up "My Documents", the current .ahx file is backed up too.

There are 2 types of people in the world.  Those with backups and those that never needed them.  SyncToy works great to backup a folder like My Docs to another drive, or NAS.  I'll add a folder like you did and be good to go.

Was it the hard drive that failed?? Do you have the old hard drive? you can put it in an external enclosure and browse it from another computer and find the files.

thanks for the follow on advice.  it occurred a while ago and was toast.  the kids and i took it apart so they could see how it works. ;-)  its very dead now.
