What is res://AHP.DLL/203 ?
« on: November 03, 2009, 05:55:04 PM »

As also asked here: http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=14665.msg81742#msg81742http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=14665.msg81742#msg81742

Every time I bring up Activity Monitor whereas the window opens new, it also opens a browser to this address:
res://AHP.DLL/203

Does anyone know what this is all about?

Never seen that.  What version of AHP?  I'm running 3.228 and the Activity Monitor opens only the history, no funny business.

You could have some spyware on you computer. The spyware thinks that when you open the AHP activity monitor you are opening up a web page and it runs. download http://free.antivirus.com/hijackthis/ and find the spyware and get rid of it.

That's an interesting and even highly probable theory, but what is "res://"  ???

GeneMar,

Yeah, I've seen that - It has something to do with permissions and where AHP is writing the file.  It drove me nutz.

I'm sorry the old guy in the mirror can't specifically remember, but I "think" I either did a complete removal of AHP (and that ain't easy), then a reinstall "As Administrator" - or I just ran AHP "As Administrator".  Another think is to make sure wherever AHP writes, you (the user) have "Full Control" permissions on the folders.

Are you on IE7?  Previous posts talked about that error with IE7.

Thanks, I'll give the Admin thing a try. I'm on Win 7 and IE8.

Back to the spyware.  Check your system for it and eliminate it.

Or, try to get an answer from X10. Do they contribute anything to this forum, or we all just speculate over issues?

There is now spyware. This is a brand new install, and others on this forum have the same issue.

IE8 has been around for sometime. I think today I will still call windows 7 brand new.

I would suspect... that with windows 7 (as was Vista and at a small extent, XP pro) you may need to install new software as the admin. Then parcel out user permissions (including to yourself) as a user... as needed.

The Internet just isn't that same safe place it was when I was a small child. Things have changed. Users... even owners.. should never log-on as the administrator.. unless they are preforming an admin task. But admin tasks (like installing new software) should not be done by/as a user ether. This is not a recent change. But I would guess that X10's software won't be the only software that gives you fits if done the old fashion way.

New install?  Probably 3.236, the BUGGY version of AHP.  You might try backdating to 3.204.  Go to http://software.x10.com/pub/applications/activehome/  and look for ahp_updt_204.exe.  Save that and install it over what you have now.  When the install is complete, use the link in AHP to update it to 3.228, the last good version of AHP.   Any .ahx files you may have created will not be affected.

That is totally weird!!!!  I still suspect you have some kind of spyware on your system as I use AHP 3.228 and NEVER get that.
