PC Companion - Graphic and Floorplan Issues
« on: January 06, 2010, 12:44:23 AM »

Hello,

I just recently discovered this app (along with a few others) and have installed it on my Vista PC.  I am seeing some issues with the graphics for the main app screen as well as the setup dialog boxes.  Essentially, it doesn't look like any of the screens are sized correctly, since the items at the bottom of the page are usually cut off.  What's worse, there is no way to resize the window so I can see all the items.  This is most frustrating on the setup screens.  Is there a way to resize the windows or is there some other setting that I may have incorrect?

I've attach a screen shot of the Startup tab in the setting screen.

As for the floorplan issue, I can't add any X10 devices.  First of all, the drop down boxes won't stay up for me to make a choice.  I have to type in all the items.  Also, if I put something into the Type Device Name field, I get the Unhandled exception error message.  If I leave that field blank, I get the message that I need to define a name.  Any ideas?

Thanks.

Wow haven't seen that before!  :(
It looks like you have the screen resolution set to low,but testing that here didn't make a difference. ::)
I don't have vista but it sound like you may have gotten a bad install. :(
Did you save the file to your hard drive before you installed?
Is this the most resent version of PCC?

In any case I'd try a fresh install.

I have 2 screens on my system, primary is set to 1680 x 1050 and secondary is set to 1280 x 1024 (Due to differnt physical screen sizes.)  I've tried multiple resolutions and all have the same issue.

Just did a fresh download and new install.

Still having same graphic issues.

Also, the main program screen has the same display issues, including:
- All Fonts look larger than on your example on the PC Companion web site.
- The minimize button in top right corner is white, not red.
- Cams radio buttion has a red box around it.
- Play Disk or File and Play TTS Radio Buttons are blue when selected.
- The word Close does not appear in the Close button.

The pics on PCCs web site are old pics but for the most part they are very close. (no where near what your seeing)  :-[
Are you using 32 bit or 64 bit?
Are you using net framework 3.5?
Have you tried running in XP compatibility mode?

See if setting your resolution to 1280 X 768 or as low as you can go helps.

Resolution change didn't help either.  Interestingly enough, I downloaded the trial version of BlueWatch and I have the same issue with it's screens.

OK now this is getting weird! ??? ::) :-[
Pc Companion is built with VB 2008 express.
BlueWatch with C# 2010 express
Both run fine on Windows 7 (at lease on my end) :-[
It definitely is a display issue with Vista! B:(
I'll see what I can dig up searching the net I'm sure your not the only one experiencing this!  :(

If I could at least resize the different setup screens, that would solve my problem.  Not sure that is the fix, but seems like the easiest way to handle different screen resolutions.

I doubt resizing will help! ???

Seems like your not the only one experiencing Display issues like this!

There is a bug with dual monitors and Vista that can cause this.
There is a issue with themes and Vista that can cause this.
Display drivers in Vista have caused this.
Viruses can cause this (not just in Vista)
Hacks for programs have caused this (not just in Vista)

Funny not all programs are affected by these  ???
I'll keep Digging!

There may be away to fix this in the programs by the way I have the buttons anchored.
I've attached two files,  rename them with the extention .zip then extract them See if there is a difference in the bottom close button. I added a top close button incase lower one is cut off!
Let me know if you can run these little programs

Followed your directions.  It tells me the compressed files are invalid.

There is no difference in either of the button test files.  That is to say they look identical.  Not to mention they are very clean looking.
