AT&T Worldnet personal web pages are being discontinued
« on: February 24, 2010, 12:01:56 AM »

Some of you probably know that AT&T was bought out by one of the baby bells a couple of years ago.  Their Worldnet Internet service is steadily being dismantled.  First to go were the newsgroups like comp.home.automation.  Then email could only be accessed through a web browser.  Now the personal web pages are being deleted.

Over a year ago I ported my X10 troubleshooting guides and all XTB information to my own website jvde.us.  The information still on the AT&T website has not been maintained since then, but I occasionally see people using those old links in new messages.  I modified my prior posts here to point to the new website.  Please update your links to the new website as follows:

Troubleshooting guides:  http://jvde.us/x10_troubleshooting.htm

XTB home page:  http://jvde.us/xtb_index.htm

All information on the AT&T site will be gone at the end of March.

A search turned up a gazillion other links pointing to the soon to disappear AT&T webpages, and I spent a couple of hours changing those links that were in my own posts.  I also changed the links in a few posts from other members that were mainly referencing my web pages.

There are still a lot of the AT&T links left embedded in other posts.  And there are also several posts with links to information that was uploaded only to the AT&T website to answer a specific question.  If anyone needs that information in the future, please contact me.

Also, please let me know if you find any other broken links, and I will fix them.

Aww, crap!

Another "geocities is shutting down" type debacle?

My fingers still hurt from the geocities one!

Starting to feel like the definition of "free time" is the time I spend keeping X10's forums running (for free).    B:(

Can you give me something specific to the AT&T links to search for?

TIA!

In the real world, the only constant is change.

When I'm online you can find me in the Home Automation Chat Room!

The search string I used was "jeffvolp.home.att.net".  I have it down to just over two pages of search results now, and can continue to change my links in the posts of other members over the next several days if that is OK with you.  The new links are shorter:

http://jeffvolp.home.att.net/x10_info/x10_troubleshooting.htm ->
http://jvde.us/x10_troubleshooting.htm

http://jeffvolp.home.att.net/xtb_files.htm -> http://jvde.us/xtb_index.htm

http://jeffvolp.home.att.net/x10xmtbuf/xtb_ordering.htm -> http://jvde.us/xtb/xtb_ordering.htm

The individual troubleshooting files change:

http://jeffvolp.home.att.net/x10_info/*.htm -> http://jvde.us/x10/*.htm

The information on the BX24AHT was not re-hosted on the jvde site, but I can do that if there is still interest in that unit.  Some of the individual data sheets and photographs that were uploaded to answer a specific question also have not been re-hosted, and I was going to just let those links die.

Update:  I did re-host Dave Houston's eggbeater and passive antennas on the jvde website, and will update the links that previously pointed to the AT&T copy.

Last night I changed the links in my own posts that had pointed to the AT&T webpages to point to the exact same webpages on the jvde site.

I have also been revising the links that will soon be broken in the posts of other members.  This is too valuable a resource to be corrupted by AT&T discontinuing the personal web pages.  If you see an edit from me at the bottom of your post, I only changed the link from the AT&T host to the jvde host.

OK, I think I have updated all the links that pointed to my AT&T web pages that will be discontinued.  If anyone discovers another one that becomes broken, please let me know.
