AHP Activity Monitor File
« on: March 05, 2010, 05:34:45 PM »

AHP 3.228, CM15A

Does anybody know where AHP stores the file for the Activity Monitor?

I've been looking at the data stream from the CM15A and the  8 byte 'message' is in hex.  When I translate it to text, I get garbage.  When I translate it to decimal, it's 8 pairs of numbers.

I can sorta figure out module-type codes and some event codes.

It's just curiosity - I'm not developing any code for anything.

Do I need to look into the SDK?

Thanks,

Mel

AHP will not tell you where the Activity Monitor is located or stores what it has, I suspect it is part and parcel of AHP itself.  Sorry! :(

Knightrider; Thank you for pointing out the thread.
I tried Oldtimers instructions and it did give me a readable text file from the Activity Monitor in AHP.
A helpfull from me.

Thanks for your responses.  I used the link to create a print-to-file printer and it confirmed my suspicions.  Not all of the events transmitted by the CM15A get into the Activity Monitor.

I have observed periods of time, up to 5 minutes, during which the Activity Monitor doesn't show anything on the screen and I know macros are executing and motion sensors are causing lights to stay on, turn on, and turn off.  One of these time periods occurred when I was running a virus scan on the pc.  It may be that the logging process interrupt, if it has one, has such a low priority that messages can't get through to AHP.

Both times that I've done a stare-and-compare with the Activity Monitor, both off of the screen and off of the printout, and the output of the CM15A USB port (traffic originating on the CM15A being sent to the pc), the Activity Monitor showed fewer events, i.e., not all of the messages sent to the pc make it to Activity Monitor.

To keep things somewhat simple, I looked only at traffic coming in to the pc and not at traffic being sent by the pc to the CM15A.

Compared with the logging capabilities of lots of different systems over many years of tech support, I have to conclude the the Activity Monitor is not a very robust logging system.  Of course, given the price point of the AHP software and CM15A combination, I might be expecting too much.

I would caution anybody considering using the Activity Monitor for any purpose that might, at some point, involve lawyers, to be extremely careful how much credence to give the monitor.

I will continue my quest to track the monitored events from the USB port to the Activity Monitor and what file they live in when the pc is powered down.

Tried everything in this thead and nothing about it worked. I created the text printer, found the file (cmdhst.208, the latest file created, however no desktop ascii file appeared.   Since I really don't care about seeing what's in the Activity Monitor File, I'm deleting the file I saved in My Documents.

Why anybody wants to see what's created by the Activity Monitor is beyond me.

I use a very specific activity monitor to keep track of my furnace run time (yep, I trust X10 for my HVAC [not recomended]).  It is generated by a program called BXMC (Bill's X10 Manual Control) and is probably still available from the author (-Bill- of WGJohns.com).

You might want to send him a PM.

Otherwise, my fuel consumption is logged and calculated by a still in progress SDK application.

As I said in my initial post, I'm curious about it.  This is a type of rabbit hunt I used to get paid for doing.

Additionally, there was another thread where a user wanted to count openings for multiple doors in a commercial/business setting and he had questions about AHP's Activity Monitor.

I remember that post. The OP wanted to use AHP to create a poor mans person counter.

We [collectively] here at the forum have learned to do many things with... or maybe I should say have got AHP and the CM15A to do things for us.. that are far above and beyond any expectations of the creators. In addition many users have used the AHP/CM15A SDK to create special and specialized software. What I tried to point out to the OP that wanted to use AHP as a people counter.... is the AHP software isn't ether intended or well suited for that. IMHO... even the CM15A isn't well suited for person counting.

Knightrider knows his way around X10 devices and software. I think he's correct... BXMC (Bill's X10 Manual Control) by: -Bill- of WGJohns.com is probably your best bet if your trying to squeeze additional data from your X10 setup.

Ether way... best of luck with that and please keep us informed of any progress.
