ms14a sensor placement
« on: March 19, 2010, 06:42:13 PM »

Anyone try placing an ms14a in the kitchen? I am doing it, but worried the oven or stove-top may cause problems when in use....

Also I would like to try to place one under the dining room table to see leg movement while people are at the dinner table and to avoid hot foods

any thoughts?

Stove/oven should not cause problems because the motion detector looks for a fairly rapid change in infrared movement, and it is more sensitive to horizontal movements than vertical. If you are positioning the MS below the table it's visual field should be below the heat emissions of the stove burners. But I wouldn't even worry about that,  as long as the motion detector is not aimed directly at the stove top (where it would see heat rising). Non moving heat sources usually will not trigger a motion detector (he says with confidence).

hmmm well I guess if we're cooking in the kitchen we would need light anyway so I think it would be ok.
