Do the cameras auto adjust for brightness??
« on: March 27, 2010, 10:03:25 PM »

So today I removed the IR squares from the lenses of all the cameras I have.  That was early this morning.  I noticed a red hue image from them when it got fairly bright outside.  Later in the day (when it was still bright about 4pm or so) I noticed all 4 of the cameras got really dark.  I started to go outside and pull the lens caps off to fine tune the focus even more.  To my surprise when I came in to check the monitor while I was focusing all 4 of the cameras got a nice bright image and it is just about sundown.

What caused this??  Do they auto adjust for light???

I was very surpised because right about now I would normally have pitch black images on my monitor and there is still light outside.

Anyone??  It is about 10am here and the cameras are starting to go dark again.

They sure do work great now in the night time.  ;-)

We had the question early on with this mod.  "What negative result will there be from removing the IR filter?"

We may have found our answer.

I used mine for a limited time, indoors only.  I did not see an issue, but kept the filter to reinstall just in case.  As you can see from the attached thread, when sunlight lights an object, it emits IR light, and will confuse the picture...  Perhaps it is a valid mod for indoor use only?  ???

I would imagine it's like a true night vision camera now that the IR filter is removed.  Which means if you look at bright lights (sun) you will eventually ruin the camera.  It should use these moded cams probably for night only now.  Just my guess.  But being in the military we had to use high dollar night vision goggles and the first thing they trained us on was not to look directly into headlights or bright lights.  Or you'll paying big bucks to replace them.   >!

Yeah they work great at night.  It is just during the day they have the opposite effect, they get super dark when it is bright outside.

I guess one can't have the best of both world unless cash is the denominator.
