Thanks for the reply, Jeff.
I've been carefully (and slowly!) following the photograph and the parts list, sorting the components, and installing them methodically using a magnifying visor.  Even though I managed to put a diode in backwards I've been careful to at least have the right component in the right place.

Your design is elegant and I'm in awe of what a nice package you've put together.  Thanks for sharing.

I'm up to R1 on the installation list.  I'm moving carefully (read: painfully slow) and am pleased with the improvement in my soldering skills.

Question: What do you use/do to clean the flux off of the solder-side of the PCB?

You should try assembling four of them in a day...

Regarding the flux, it depends on what type of solder you use.  Rosin flux can be cleaned off by soaking in alcohol.  Some rosin flux is no longer active after the heating cycle.  Kester  "245" is designed to be left on the board.  For "44" rosin solder, Kester states: "The flux residue is non-conductive and non-corrosive."  Organic flux, such as Kester "331", is water soluble, and must be removed because the residue is conductive.  Because of the difficulty of properly disposing of the waste, I think it best to use a solder whose residue can be safely left on the board.

Thanks for the information: I'm using Kester 44 RA 60/40.  It's good to know that I don't have another chore after finishing the XTB.

ANSWER:  Yes, it can!  :)%

I have successfully assembled, tested, and installed the XTB-IIR and it works great!  Even the back porch light which would never work under control is working.  All of my x10 modules and lights (SmartHome, x10, Leviton) are working and the timers sent from the CM15A (currently plugged into the outlet on the XTB-IIR) function as programmed.  I have it wired through the 240v dryer plug which is about 20 feet from the breaker box.

1. The XTB-IIR can save your investment in x10 equipment.
2. You, too, can build the XTB-IIR. (If I could do it, you can do it)
3. Jeff designed a great tool and he provides very clear assembly instructions.
4. It works!  It really boosts the x10 signal to the edges of the house!

Jeff, thanks for a great product.  The XTB-IIR has saved my x10 investment!

How is the XTB-IIR wired into my system.  I have a 3,000 sq ft home and the closest 220v plug is for the dryer and is about 40 feet away from the service panel.  All other 220v appliances (HVAC, water heater, etc) are direct wired tot he service panel.  Can this be wired direct into the service panel?

I believe the recommended connection is to the Service Panel.
That is where mine is wired into.
