Newbie Questions
« on: April 22, 2010, 04:34:44 PM »

Hello I'm new to the X10 world and am partially excited. I'd like to be fully excited if I could get everything figured out. Here's what I have:

- CM15 USB interface with AHP 3.236
- Windows Vista Home
- Socket Rocket LM15A
- Lamp Module LM465
- Appliance Module LM486
- Eagle Eye Sensor

and these are the two burning questions I have:

- how and hell do I get the Socket Rocket to work?! I have followed directions. I have tried different light fixtures/ lamps and STILL can't get it to work. What's the secret?
- I have my LM465 set to activate when the Eagle Eye sensor is triggered and also have it set to turn off after 8 minutes; but how can I (if possible) set it to only activate during certain hours?

Thanks and look forward to the input and continued excitement with the X10 world.

Have you tried A1 for the Socket Rocket? By default from the factory it should be on A1.

We were just covering the "conditional macro" feature... in another post:  http://forums.x10.com/index.php?topic=20227.msg114052#msg114052

To set the SocketRocket.... without a remote. Since it requires 3 ON signals within 30 seconds after it receives electrical power. Set a chime in AHP the to House/Unit address you want to use. Since the chime doesn't require an off signal... after you supply power to the SocketRocket... within 30 seconds... chime the chime 3-4 times.

Have the socketRocket close to the CM15A (for a strong signal). That should set the socketRocket. Then you can move the set SocketRocket to where you wish to use it. After you reintroduce the SocketRocket to electrical power... don't send any X10 signals for more than 30 secs.

I do have it set up as A1 and it doesn't work. In fact, when I use the remote the module is switching on in AHP, but nothing is happening on the light.

Hardware Tab
Tranceived House Codes
Change from auto and pick the House Code A
Try it in the same outlet  as the CM15A or a different outlet to see if you have a power line signal problem.

A few thraads and links to helpful troubleshooting and X10 setup:

Tried this using a new House/Unit code and it didn't work.

Tried this as well. Still no go.

Would it be wise to change everything to B code and start over again??

like I said, everything is working except the Socket Rocket - maybe faulty?

Maybe faulty. It does not go on at all?
If it is stuck ON even when first power is applied. It would definitely be defective.

I read this thread and its pretty vague for my beginners little brain to wrap around.

I have my LM465 with a timer set from 7:00pm to 7:00am with 50% dimmer; and this works just fine. However this is the part i don't know how to do within AHP. I want the Eagle Eye Sensor to trigger the LM465 to ON. The Eagle Eye is set to stay on for eight minutes- which I already have.

Could somebody explain "simply" how I would accomplish this? One day I will hopefully be to the level of understanding all of how AHP works!!

Thanks everyone for the input!!

Does the timer turn the light off... or dim it to 50 percent?

Could somebody explain "simply" how I would accomplish this?

I would try creating a new macro (actually it will require a couple macros) in the same room as the 50% macro (and the LM465). The EagleEye Sensor should be set to a House/Unit address different from the LM465 (the sensor should merely serve as a trigger).

What the EagleEye will trigger is a conditional macro. You will need to have the smart macros plugin installed to create the macro.

Since this macro (will likely) need to be saved on the CM15A (interface) the only "conditions" that the interface "remembers" is the "monitored code" You only have one monitored house (thats the letter) code. So if your LM465 isn't on a monitored code... your original 50% macro will need to include the turning on and off of a fake monitored module.

Then just create your macro to ..... say increase brightness to 100% at ON. And then a second macro to decrease to (to.. not by) 50% when it receives OFF. BOTH of those macros will be conditional macros... with the condition being if the monitored module is ON, so it ONLY works during the pre-assigned time. That should do it.

One day I will hopefully be to the level of understanding all of how AHP works!!

You and me both.

Don't worry about your macros being perfect or working correctly the first time. Save and download the macro(s) to the interface (CM15A). But save the ahx file (AHP files are ahx files) under a new name first. So if your trials are totally screwed up (mine often are) you can just go back to the old working ahx file... and reload your CM15A.
