very difficult: strange trouble with many modules!
« on: April 23, 2010, 08:21:18 AM »

Hello everybody, i'm newbie who's trying to enter the magic world of  the home automation  B:(

I've bought on ebay 2  stock of used modules (TM13, LAMP MODULE, APPLIANCE MODULE, .... brand: MARMITEK) from 2 different seller.

from the first seller no problem, all the modules works great (he bought those but never used so those were like new).
from the second seller who used them with the Marmitek Security Console SC9000 i got only trouble:

the TM13 from seller2, set to the same housecode of the TM13 (seller1), using the EasyTouch 35 programmed for the TM13 of seller1 doesn't work with the TM13 seller2 (so i was thinkin' probabily it's broken)

but also other modules (es APPLIANCE MODULE) from seller2 doesn't work with the TM13 (seller1) and that sound strange, because the seller2 told me all the stuff were working with his console SC9000. Also i've got (still from seller2) a remote which seems doesn't working with the TM13 (seller1), even though it's programmed with the same housecode and RF.

is it possible that marmitek changed some params inside different models, making old modules not compatible with newer model?
or it's just that the seller2 sold me everything broken? (seems very strange, he's got over 200 feedback at 100%)

From seller2 i have also bought the COMPUTER INTERFACE (not tested yet), is it possible that he used that for programming each modules, and now i got each modules with different EPPROM?

Any ideas?

Many thanks in advance!

Did you check them in the same location, or were they on different circuits?

To eliminate house interference issues, replace a seller1 module with the same type of seller 2 module in the same receptacle.  If it doesn't work the same, then it may be defective.

I am not familiar with Marmitek modules, but I assume they have some sort of dials to set the housecode and unit code.  Since the contacts can become oxidized and make poor connections, spin them around a few times and be sure they are set correctly.

thanks Jeff for your prompt support!

yes i checked them on same location; anyway it's a good idea for checking the house-code wheel, that probabily could be oxidized (in effect i could try with the same housecode of the previous owner, not yet checked).

i'll let you know!

You may want to look at this web site.
http://www.letsautomate.com/10680.cfm

It explains that there where two model TM13U [one house code] and TM13AH [all house code] models.

seems to have solved most trouble! switching the unit code and the house code 3 times as jeff suggested fixed that for 2 appliance modules and one lamp module, but another appliance module seems dead and the TM13 too :( (i've cheched and it's the AH version, for every house code).

by the way i've opened the appliance module and looked inside: i've noticed something like a regulator screw: what is that? Moving it clockwise or counterclockwise could help to get the module working again? Any other method to test it? (eg with a electronic tester?)

Thanks,
Bob

Is this screw looking device on the top of a metal can like item?
If so it is a tuning adjustment for a coil.
Depending on where it is in the circuit it could be for tuning the power line receiver or transmitter.

Your modules don't match the ones here in the US and Canada. So guessing on how the circuits are in your maybe a challenge.
