You may want to search for maybe the keyword Windows 7. If no one can give you the answer. I believe there have been mixed results with Windows 7.

I'm in the process of trying to get AHP installed onto my Windows 7 computer now.  My XP machine blew a capacitor on the motherboard and I had to buy a new computer.  I was able to save all my files from the XP machine, but several applications (AHP being one) were not recoverable.  So I need to go to X10 and get the application and install it.  Plus I need to install the VA12A driver.  More info to follow regarding the installation.  If anyone has gone this route before ... let me know of the pitfalls and successes.

Before I retired... I managed a tiny bit of a computer network. We used [mostly] Dell PC's and... there was a period of time when we had several failed motherboards do to failed/bad/swelled capacitors. Why not repair that PC? Just solder in a new cap (or a few). and it should be back on its feet. Those old XP computers can make really great HA PC's.

Email or call X10 (with you order number if you have it) or at least the same email address that they used to originally send you the download links. To get new software.

Attached is a link to the most recent European Version of AHP, if you decide against using the U.S. version on your new PC.  There are drivers for Win 7 at the link.
I'm using it without trouble on my relatively simple set of U.S. modules.  I had it installed on my laptop when I was running Win 7 64 RC.  I didn't have any trouble with it under Win 7 64, but I probably didn't do much at that time.  Now I have it running on the same laptop under Vista 32 and it is my main AHP source.

I don't know if there is a Eu equivalent for a VA12, but I know that you would have to convert modules to the Eu equivalent if you try to use it.  If I remember correctly, I ran my old .AHX file and edited each module to the equivalent Eu type.  Also, it comes with Smart Macros and On Alert and I believe no DST.  None of the U.S. plugins will register (as I read earlier). 

If you don't want to try to fix your old MB or buy an old XP box, you might consider installing XP as a dual boot on your Win 7 system.  Depending on the XP license you have, you could have trouble activating XP, it if that is important.   I'd hate to guess which path would cause the least amount of grief, but I would prepare for some challenges

I have also done a few swollen capacitor repairs on PC Motherboards.
There is even a web site devoted to bad capacitors. As they seem to be showing up in all kinds of electronic devices.

All good suggestions on my Windows 7 PC.  I've got AHP running of sorts.  The biggest hurdle for me is getting the VA12A working (no success yet).  I am pursuing fixing the burnt out Capacitor on the motherboard of my XP machine.  Need to find someone to do the repair.  Or see if I can find an XP motherboard.  I think that's the best solution for me to get AHP back to running again.  I had such a solid environment.

Another thought here, which version of windows 7 do you have? Windows 7 Professional and up allow one to download a copy of windows XP that will run on that computer.  The download isn't a replacement, rather it's how Microsoft addressed the backwards-compatible need for those folks (Businesses) who have some application(s) that simply will not run on windows 7. It's (the windows XP download) runs as a virtual machine on the Windows 7 computer. Michael -- that's a good suggestion.  I have Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) and would have to upgrade.  Not sure if the $200 for the upgrade is worth it at this time.  I'm still looking to replace the capacitor.  That's still seems to be the most economical and the most responsible thing to do.  And as Dave says, it's good to keep the old PCs off the streets during trash day!!!

Still no success on getting the VA12A driver installed on Windows 7.  Anybody have a sure fire way of getting it installed?   It just never shows up in the Device Manager.

Yea, the Virtual PC stuff in Win 7 Pro and Extreme is really neat.

I, too, have the the Virtual XP installed, and with it, have support for some older programs and USB drivers for which their aren't any Win 7 updates.

I also have Win Me installed as a Virtual PC, and with it, have AH2 installed and my old CM14A working.

This different than dual-boot because the Virtual PC is simply in its own window within Win 7.

I had a similar problem on Win 7.  Here's what it took (and took two tries at that!):

1.  Unplug the VA12A
2.  Find the VA12A driver and uninstall it.
3.  Reboot!!!!! (leave VA12A unplugged)
4.  Install driver for VA12A.
5.  Plug in VA12A

Not sure that will do it for you, but the unplug, delete, uninstall, REBOOT, reinstall sequence seemed to be the "magic" for me.

Thanks ITGuy ... I think I've done about 10 of those iterations before with no luck.

After the install has completed -- the Device Manager shows Other Devices and lists two Unknown Devices.  And I never see VA12A listed under Imaging Devices (where I assume it would be)
I do have something installed under Imaging Devices, called HP psc 2350 series.  Would that cause a conflict?

Hi Don,

I wouldn't think the HP multi-function printer would interfere.  Have you looked at the device detail (especially the driver info) on those two Unknown Devices to see if you can identify one of them as being the VA12A?  If not, you might want to delete those unknown devices once you're sure they're not "real". [I think I remember having that happen in my Win 7 install, but not sure.  Unfortunately, I don't currently have a Win 7 machine, so I can't do much in the way of research.]  By the way, in XP, the VA12A shows up under "Video, Game, and Sound Controllers", so you might see if Win 7 has a similar category.

ITguy ... thanks for the suggestions.  The Unknown Devices appear not to be real.  There is no useful information when I look at their properties.  The fact that two unknown devices show up when I plug the VA12A into the USB port is also strange.  Nothing shows up in any of the other categories in the Device Manager.  I'm beginning to believe there is no X10 VA12A driver for Windows 7.  Again, has anyone successfully downloaded the VA12A driver onto Windows 7?
