Everything works with PalmPad but not with AHP
« on: May 02, 2010, 10:25:24 PM »

Hello I am new to X10 and to the forum so please be kind.

So here is what I have

1 CM15A PC Interface
1 WS4777 3way Switch
4 WS467 Dimmable light switches
2 SR227 Super Socket Outlets
1 TM 751 Transceiver
1 XPS3 Non Dimmable light switch
1 HR12A Palm pad Remote
PC running XP Pro

So I have tried all the suggested trouble shooting steps like moving the CM15A to different outlets etc.. Everything works with the palmpad but in AHP only the WS4777 and the WS467 work. If it was a phase or noise issue wouldn't I get the same effect with the palmpad as I do with AHP. Everything had been working great for about 2 weeks until tonight. I haven't added anything new and all these modules were added at the same time. B:(

Thanks for the help

When AHP sends a power line signal there could be signal issues with the not responding modules.
The Palm Pad maybe going through the TM751 alone; CM15A AHP Interface as it can also tranceive X10 RF signals;if enabled; from the Palm Pad or both are sending X10 signals and at least one is reaching all the modules. Since TM751s are not polite they sometime step on other signals.

That's a perfect description of something generating noise. What got plugged in or turned on?

Did you try the CM15A in the same outlet as the TM751?

The only thing I can think of is that I had to turn on my Central Air conditioning

If it is newer high effeciency model with variable speed fan, compressor, etc. maybe.

Easy to check. Turn it off breaker and see if things work again.

Does CM15A work when plugged in to same outlet as the working TM751?

If it is newer high efficiency model with variable speed fan, compressor, etc. maybe.

There have been reports of problems caused by the newer variable speed blowers.  The solution is to feed that circuit through a XPF filter.

Did you perhaps move the CM15A to a receptacle on the other phase?

If you have not already done so, you may want to read some of the troubleshooting guides I wrote:

Jeff-

Your site is very informative. After ready a lot of the info there I did some messing around, moved my CM15A upstairs and everything started working. I then discovered that a power strip was causing alot of the issues. So I unplugged a lot of the electronic from the power stips and plugged them directly into the wall outlet. I then plugged the CM15A back into it's oringinal spot and everything seems good (for now).I do however need some powerstips for some locations around my house but I am afraid of running into this issue again. What do you suggest?

Not taking Jeffs thunder, but use the cheapie powerstrips that do NOT contain surge suppression or filtering.

I have one more question if anyone has time. I want to put in another XPS3 3 way switch. The first one I put in was not 3 way. Anyway this new one I want to put in has a RED wire that I have never encountered before so I did some research and discovered this is "transfer" wire  so I hooked the switch up as follows (diagram 1) both white to neutral both blacks to line and the red to load. No Joy. the button clicks but nothing. The other switch on the other side of the room (Diagram2) still has it's original switch and still works. I have tried every wiring combination possible and I am at a lose.[img]

You have a three way switch setup in this case.

You will have to replace the second switch with an XPSS Slave switch and rewire it.
The connection diagram is on page 2 of the four page XPS3 Installation Manual.

If you don't have the latest manual it is available on the X10Pro web site.

Also this Uncle Phil tutorial on three way circuits might help.
