Well I am glad you found the problem. Sometimes it can be a challenge to find the offending part.

Seems lots of manufacturers these days are making questionable electronic devices. I am constantly seeing complaints about companies that where reputable. Now blowing users off with "Buy a new one" even if the >$1000 LCD TV is <2 years old. Warranty is 1 year. Have a nice day.

I have what the manufacturers sales site billed as the best LED solution for a 100 watt bulb.
They carefully didn't say it was like a 100 watt bulb. They said it was comparable.  ::)
If you use it over head it maybe comparable but in a table lamp the ceiling gets all the light and to top it all off. It is the worse X10 powerline noise maker I have ever seen.

B:(

Hey all.  I'm not new to X10 as I've been using it for years.  I have an XPS3 switch in place controlling an outdoor plug.  This has been working great for years.  I recently replaced the outdoor outlet because the housing was getting old and I suspected that water was getting in.  I now have a new GFCI, water-resistant outlet out there with a plastic outdoor housing.  Everything was working find for about 48 hours.

Now, when I press the switch on the XPS3 it clicks on, the red light comes on and almost immediately the relay clicks right back off and the red light goes off.  I thought there could be an issue with my outlet wiring so I removed the outlet.  Still the XPS3 would go on and right off.  I took out the XPS3 and replaced it with a traditional rocker switch.  I put the outlet back in place and everything works like a charm with the traditional switch.  So, I don't think the new outlet or wiring is faulty.

Is it possible that after 4 years my XPS3 just died and I need to replace it?  How can I test this without having to order a new one?  Any other thoughts as to what could be causing this? Is there possibly a constant "off" signal that is being sent therefore the XPS3 once on keeps turning itself off right away?  Or, is there an electrical problem or faulty XPS3 problem going on?

This is the outlet: http://www.smarthome.com/36544B/Leviton-W7599-TRE-Tamper-Weather-Resistant-GFCI-Duplex-Receptacle-w-LED-Indicator-Black/p.aspx

Thanks for the help.

I still haven't completely resolved this problem.  I believe that my original issue was a stuck remote button and therefore the XPS3 kept clicking off.  Now I have a different issue.  Please keep in mind that this setup was working just fine for about 3 years.  After I replaced the old outdoor GFCI plug with a new one (link to that product above) I started having issues.  I unplug everything from the GFCI outlet to make sure no devices are causing this issue.  I turn on the XPS3 switch.  It clicks on properly and the red light comes and stays on.  However, I cannot reset the GFCI.  Every time I press the reset button the GFCI just pops again.  I cannot get it to stay.

In previous tests with a normal light switch in place of the XPS3 the outlet performed just fine.  One of the posters in this thread said that sometimes X10 switches can trip GFCI outlets.  What's the fix if any?

Thanks.

If I read your description correctly.
The XPS3 is turning the power to the Leviton GFCI outlet?
The XPS3 stays On, indicated by the red LED, but the GFCI outlet trips off as a fault detected.

Yes I have had X10 modules trip GFI's. I fixed my problem by taking out the GFI outlets and replacing with a GFI breaker. I can't explain why that fixed it other than the outlets and the breaker were different brands.

However if I read your problem correctly, I don't see how you have a X10 module connected to or influencing the GFI. Appearently the XPS is not on a down stream protection leg of the GFI because you say the XPS  " It clicks on properly and the red light comes and stays on.  However, I cannot reset the GFCI".  So what is the house wiring relationship between the GFI and the XPS?

Almost sounds like the original manual switch turned the outlet on and off.
Now using a XPS3 to control the outlet, but this is speculation till more details are available.
That way if I am incorrect I look like an idiot.  rofl

No lab coat or ball cap.
Just one of the original beta Icons when the tests where over.

Sorry for not replying sooner.  I need to check my options on this board as I didn't get any emails that there were responses.  Anyway, yes Brian you are correct.  I have a switch inside my house that controls the outdoor outlet.  Three years ago I replaced the normal rocker switch with an XPS3 and it worked great.  The GFCI outlet seemed to crap the bed so I replaced it with a brand new one.  Now I'm having the problem described in this thread.  Like I said, I removed the XPS3 and put the original rocker switch back in and the GFCI works just fine.  I put the XPS3 back in, it turns on (red light) but trips the GFCI.  I can't reset it.

I can try just switching the breaker to a GFCI I suppose but they are expensive I think.  But this is a headache so I may just go that route.

Thanks for the ideas.  Any others besides change the breaker to a GFCI?

Edit: I should also add that if I take out the GFCI outlet and leave the XPS3, everything works just fine again.  It appears that the combo that doesn't work is the GFCI outlet and the XPS3 together.  I may run out and get the GFI breaker and give that shot.

Looks like you did some helpful tests.
It does look like the combination of XPS3 and the new GFCI outlet don't get along.
If you try a GFCI breaker let us know the results.

I bought a Cutler Hammer one this summer at Menards for < $30.
