I ended up adopting Heyu, it's a keeper for sure.  It is the most versatile and reliable component of my setup.

I run Heyu on my Linux box, there's also a front end for it called domus.Link. I haven't been able to get it to work but might try again over the weekend. They also have an Android application for it but it's a few dollars and I don't want to buy it until I get the program working.

When I get some time I'm going to create a better front end that'll communicate with Heyu on the backend.
