I can't get my X10 up and running
« on: June 26, 2010, 06:04:09 PM »

I have a house and a garage that's about 100' away and by my drive. The garage has two floodlight sensors and there is a third sensor by my walk.
I installed this system about ten years ago and it has worked fine until I had a lightning strike a couple of weeks ago. The sensors trigger outside flood lights, carriage lights on the garage and lights outside my attached garage by the steps.
I replaced the bridge in the garage and in the house. I replaced two switches in the garage that contolled the garage lights. I replaced the floodlight sensor(one) in the garage. With my plug in switch board plugged into the garage circuit, I can turn on and off the garage lights---not by using their code but with 'all lights on'..works fine that way. I checked the codes and all the outside lights are set at A1. The garage lights act as though I am using the wrong code but I hit A1 on the box and I can hear the floodlight sensor relay work but not the lights that are on the switches. AND non of the house light swill work with any of the sensors or boxes.
I replaced one of the receivers that controls an outside lamp post and it doesn't work. My main floods are 220 and the relay is triggered by a receiver putting 110 on the coil of the relay. It won't work with X10 codes but my alarm system generates a X10 code to turn the outside floods on and that works.
I am totally baffled by my system at this point. When I originally installed it, I put it in and everything worked from day one....now nothing!!!!  B:(

When an established setup suddenly fails.. we generally ask.. what changed. In your case... we already know.. you had a lightning strike.

I had lighting touchdown in my backyard a couple years ago. In my case I was lucky that no one was hurt (and I kept telling myself that). My strike killed every security camera I had the second I was hit... then it became the gift that just kept giving. As the days and weeks went on.. I found additional devices that didn't work... and other devices failed prematurely.

I am guessing... but I think you may have a failed device that is making so much power line noise... that your X10 can't work dependably.
Mapping your circuits should [might] expose the problem
