Eagle Eye not talking to transceiver
« on: August 22, 2010, 10:47:48 AM »

I bought an Eagle Eye motion sensor that was packaged with a transceiver (TM751).  I have been using smart macros to set up an event when the motion sensor is activated.  I now have it working.  However, the Eagle Eye is sending the signal to the CM 19A Wireless Transceiver which is the one hooked to the computer.  When it is out of range of the CM 19A, it will not start the macro.

I am assuming this is because the transceiver that is in range is not repeating the signal to the computer.  Is this correct?  What do I do about it?  I can't position the motion sensor in the driveway and still be in range of the computer.

The TM751 send an X10 power line signal. The CM19A has no way of seeing a power line signal as it is RF only. So AHP will never know the sensor tripped if the CM19A doesn't see it. Even if the sensor was in range of the TM751 and not the CM19A.

If your kit had the CM15A in it. Then the power line signal would be seen and you could also send power line signal directly and not back through the TM751 to the power line. It also has a built in RF receiver and transmitter along with the power line receiver and transmitter.

A TM751 will take the signal from the Eagle Eye and convert it to a PLC signal, but since you are using a CM19A on your computer, which is only a wireless transceiver and not a PLC transceiver, there is no way for the signal to get to your computer from the TM751.  One solution is to upgrade to a CM15A which is a wireless AND PLC controller.  Another solution which may be cheaper would be to get a USB extension that would allow you to get your CM19A closer to the motion sensor.

When extending USB you have 2 choices; USB extension cable (limit is 16 feet before needing an active USB extension cable), or to avoid the need for active USB extension cables use USB over CAT5 extenders which will let you use up to ~150 feet of CAT5 cable to extend it.
