What's UP with WS13A's??
« on: September 30, 2010, 07:30:50 PM »

Why can't I get WS13A's to consistently work?? I have three that are installed in different locations. They all work fine when switched manually at the switch. I can control them fine with the PalmPad Remote. BUT they won't work with timers. They are all meant for CFL bulbs (which I tried switching to standard bubs which didn't change anything). They also don't work with the ActivePhone application. Are there any tricks to get these working with timers??

A WS13A is an Appliance switch and should established in AHP.  If you use CFLs with them, the CFLs must be in a socket controlled by the WS13A.

SHould I try using an AM466 or 486? I do have CFL's ONLY in the sockets controlled by the WS13A.

I tested with a AM466 and that didn'tt change anything. The only way I can control the switch is with the PalmPad Remote and manually at the switch. I CAN'T turn it on or off from AHP.
Any otheer suggestions would be greatly appreciated to help with this frustrating issue!!

AHP has a choice for the WS13A so changing it to an appliance module probably will not change anything.

Is the palm pad being tranceived by the CM15A or did your AHP kit come with the CM19A and TM751?
If the palm pad is being process by a transceiver in a different location from the CM15A. Then you may have a power line signal issue.

In AHP can you turn them on and off manually, with the screen icons?

The PalmPad is indeed being tranceived by the CM15A. Everything I do is stored in the intrerface. I CAN'T power on or off the WS13A from the AHP screen icons. ONLY with the PAlmPad via the CM15A and at the switch itself.

So the CM15A can control the WS13A when transceiving the palm pad but not directly from its screen.
That would indicate the power line signal from the CM15A can get to the WS13As.

I wounder if it is the fact that the palm pad sends the RF command signal twice. Though I have not tested the power line signal from a CM15A when a palm pad is used to see if the actual command goes out twice.

OK, Brian, what are the choices?  I have 3.271 and the only option is under Appliance Modules.

Now that you asked Dan. I found it is in two places in my 3.271.
Listed as a Fluorescent Decorator in Lamps and a Decorator Style Appliance Wall in the Appliance.

So the one in Appliance Modules also look like a good choice.

I tested two X10 RF remotes {HR12A and UM19A} with both a CM15A and an RR501.
Observed power line signals with a Smarthome 1132CU.

CM15A with both RF devices sends the command twice on the power lines and one time from the on screen buttons.

RR501 only sends the commands once for each RF command.

I believe the remotes send the command twice to ensure a better operations. It seems like the CM15A also sends a power line command twice for RF commands received.

It could be you have marginal power line signals to the WS13As and between the first and second set of commands from the palm pad they work. While the single command from the screen does not.
I don't have any data on timers sending commands more than one time.

Update:
The way the CM15A handles the RF signals seems to be age related. My old ones do not transmit the power line command twice. The later ones do.  ???
Date Code: 04J41 Controller IC P10792E does not.
04J44 Controller IC P10792F does not.
05C10;05D18 and 08B09 Controller IC P10792M does send the power line command twice.

Thanks. I checked again and found the double listing as well.

For what it's worth, I have not had trouble controlling my WS13A's or one XPS3 fluorescent wall switches with a CM15A or a CM11A.

Sounds like a genuine mystery to me.   ???

Lee911 must be using the newest AHP since he is running ActivePhone. Maybe X10 hosed the software.
Try defining the WS13 as a AM466 and see if that makes a difference.

It looks like he already tried setting them as AM466 modules...

[Cue Dan to tell him to downgrade to 3.228 and try it]   :'

Not doing that any more, plus after something hosed my AHP (3.228) three weeks ago, I had to totally uninstall everything (backed up my .ahx files first) and then removed AHP plus the two folders it creates and installed 3.271, which is operating just like 3.228 did, no problems.   I suspect that by upgrading AHP from the first version through 3.228 (through 3.236 and back to 3.228) a lot of remnants of older versions remains in the ActiveHome Pro folder.
