One more question - is there something comparable to the XPT or Leviton 16400 that looks like a traditional decora rocker lightswitch?

Leviton also makes X10 compatible transmitters that look like standard Decora rocker switches.  One is the HCC10-1SW.

hmmm I've never really looked into those leviton rocker switches as their price is much higher than switchlincs (anyone know why?)

but I read this about it:

HCC10-1SW is not intended to replace standard wall switches. It is only a control trnsmitter and has no load switching capability

Depends on where you buy it.

Thanks everyone for your help.  I installed An XPT with an XPD and set up a macro in active home pro per brandts suggestion. Works great! Looks a little funky as a lightswitch but I can live with it. Presumably at some point the boys will be old enough I won't need this!

Thanks

Sorry I am late to the party, but glad to see you got it working!

I got into home automation for a very similar reason - my youngest liked to crank his CD player at 4 AM.  Now I have a timer on it,and he just finds other ways to wake everyone up :)

Since then, I have found all sorts of cool things to wire up - and more on the horizon I am sure!
