How do I know if I have a Soft Start LM465?
« on: November 06, 2010, 08:12:17 PM »

Easiest way to tell if you have a Soft Start LM465 is to turn it on and off. If the load ramps On and Off
At about a three second rate. It is soft start.

Actions between versions in tests below:

Tests of different versions of X10s LM465 Lamp Modules.
Isolated AC wiring with an XPPF to remove XTB-IIR from the equation.
TM751, HR12A and a TR16A to generate X10 power line signals.
40 watt incandescent bulb load.

Old before Soft Start DC: Unknown
On and Off commands resulted in a rapid On and Off action.
All Lights On and All Units Off commands resulted in a rapid On and Off action.
One second cycle of On and Off Commands resulted in rapid On and Off actions.
Dims to 0%

Original Version Soft Start DC:08A01
On and Off commands result in a three second ramp On and Off action.
An added On or Off command before the previous On or Off was processed completely. Resulted in a slow ramp in the last commands direction.
All Lights On and All Units Off commands resulted in a three second ramp On and Off action.
One second cycle of On and Off commands resulted in a partial ramp On and Off action.
Dims to about 20%

Newer Version of Soft Start DC:09J44
On and Off commands result in a three second ramp On and Off action.
An added On or Off command before the previous On or Off was processed completely reverted to a fast On and Off action.
All Lights On and All Units Off commands resulted in a rapid On and Off action.
One second cycle of On and Off commands resulted in a rapid On and Off action.
Dims to about 20%

Did a few more tests with a CM15A AHP and my Smarthome 1132CU as a monitor. Isolated with the XPPF.

Since X10 says to call the Soft Start types a LM14A. I looked at the data being sent.
It looks like Extended Data Dim and Bright command are being sent and both the early and later revision Soft Start unit will follow them. Older one just sat there like a dead lump if called a LM15A.
