I am a newbie to this and am having problems getting the RR501 to work properly.

I purchase the rr501 and have a am466 and a socket rocket also.

Initially I plugged the rr501 and the am466 into the same socket and used the same codes, but the rr501 does not seem to send the signal to the am466.

I have tried to isolate the problem and use only a powerstrip, but that does not seem to work either.

Getting frustrated.  What am I doing wrong.

I went as far as purchasing another rr501 but have not had any luck with that.

Any help would be appreciated.

1) I don't think you want the RR501 and AM466 on the same HouseCode/UnitCode; just guessing. Though, you could.
2) The RR501 hears an RF signal from something like an X10 remote, an X10 motion sensor, or the CM15A. When it
'hears' that signal, it will send the HC/UC down on to the powerline for other X10 devices to use. The signal must be
using the same HouseCode (HC) that the RR501 is configured to use though.
3) Assuming you have a remote, a motion sensor, or a CM15A (w/ software), are you hearing the RR501 'click' when you
send a command to it's address?

With the motion sensor (which I also have) the rr501 does make a clicking sound.

I have a lamp plugged into the am466 (which is set to the same code as the rr501), and I would expect that to come on, but it does not.

I have tried different codes to no avail.

Take the AM466 out of the equation for now leaving only the RR501 plugged in.
Plug the lamp into the RR501. If you have a CFL bulb in the lamp, replace it with a standard incand one for testing.
Trip the motion sensor and see if the lamp lights up. If it does, leave the housecode on the AM466 the same as the
housecode set on the RR501 and change the unit code of the AM466 so it's not the same as the RR501. Now, keeping
the housecode on the sensor the same as the RR501 and the AM466, change its unit code to match the AM466.
Plug the lamp into the AM466 and trip the motion sensor. What happens?

If you set the appliance module to the same address House and Unit code as the RR501.
When the RR501 turns on the appliance module should also turn on.

If everything is at factory defaults of A1. The socket rocket should also go on and off with the motion sensors commands. When the RR510 does. If you can control the socket rocket and not the appliance module on the same addresses. It maybe defective.

We have seen poor House and Unit Code switches. Try rotating both the House and Unit Code wheels a few times and see if anything changed.

If you were using a motion sensor or RF remote like a Palm Pad to control the RR501 the AM should have turned ON.

 i.e Motion Sensor set to A1, RR501 set to house code A and slide switch set to "1", AM set to A1. When you triggered the Motion Sensor, the RR501 should have clicked (turning on the RR501 outlet), and the AM should also have come on. If that isn't happening, one of the three components isn't working.

BTW Use a non surge outlet strip for this. Some "surge" outlet strips will block the X10 signal.

No joy on this.  I did purchase another rr501 just to make sure that was not the problem.  Same issue.

Could I have 2 rr501 that are bad?

For the power strip, - I am using an older power strip with an older push button model.

Can't imagine both would be bad right out of the box.
Don't use the powerstrip. Plug the RR501 right into an outlet and plug the lamp into it.
Don't plug in the AM466 or the second RR501 yet.
Now trip your motion sensor standing right next to the RR501. Does the RR501 click and turn on the lamp/light?
If not, double-check house and unit codes. Make certain the motion sensor is set to the RR501's address.
Bottom line: let's keep it simple while troubleshooting.
