sip puff x10 remote
« on: January 04, 2011, 06:34:13 PM »

I have modified a x10 remote 5 years ago that wired air switches to the buttons on the remote. it has broke and cant find someone to modify one. I'm a quadriplegic paralyzed from neck down and used that to turn my light and fan on/off when i'm in bed. there is nothing that will do such a thing unless u get on ur computer and use firecracker. any suggestions?

I would highly recommend setting up ActiveHome Pro and BVC (http://www.wgjohns.com/bvc.htm) running on some cheap used windows computer 24/7. That way you could just tell it what you want. Also you could maybe put a modified (with powerflash or DS10A) Alarm Mat under your mattress with a macro that runs between such and such hours to toggle the lights and fan automatically when you lay in bed.

I,ve tried voice commands and being a quad dont have enough voice sound to activate unit. even with mic close voice is broken up. i only need to turn on/off 2 items. i wish they sold a x10 diy remote kit and take circuit board and solder wires to board. boards are hard to solder to and figure out.

So right now you have two sip puff switches.

I googled sip puff switches and I think I got it correct. If not please correct me.
Each sip puff switch has a switch that closes for a sip and one to close for a puff.
Item 1 On
Item 1 Off
Are a sip or puff to one switch.

Item 2 On
Item 2 Off.
Are a sip or puff to the second switch.

Each connected to one On; Off pair of the button inputs of an X10 remote.

yes, i use two straws (hoses) sip in first hose closes contacts turns light on. puff in same hose closes other contacts turns light off. same with fan. i use clippard phenumatic air switch  # 5100-3 NO. it takes one switch per action, 4 switches total for light and fan. I put one hose to two switches via 1/8" barbed tee. one on sip side one switch, hook other side hose to puff side on switch two.

i used x10 remote 4001x but any battery remote works.

Back in the 1980's Dave Rye at X10 designed a S&P X10 controller. I don't think Dave has retired yet, so you might call X10 and ask to speak to Dave Rye about the old X10 Sip and Puff Controller. Dave may still have one or two.

Thank you for the added information on what you presently are using.
This may assist us in finding something for you.

The 4001X is the Smarthome stock number for an X10 HR12A or X10Pro PHR03. Palm Pad remote.

Do you have access to some electronic type person or maybe a electronics school?
Where you maybe able to get someone to disassemble a HR12A and solder the PC Board connections to some wires. For connection to your switches.
