Eliminating the "SNAP' in 751 modules
« on: May 14, 2010, 07:57:46 PM »

I found it necessary to use a 751 module to improve remote reception in a far region of the house. The sole purpose was just that. I didn't have anything plugged into it. Eveytime that house code was sent, the darned thing would snap on - and frankly it was annoying.

I decided to do something about it. So, I opened up the device, and located two small white wires from the PC board to the solenoid (a healthy solenoid believe me, no wonder it makes such a racket.) I snipped one of those wires, and carefully reassembled it.

Still functions just fine as a trancseiver, but of course the outlet in the bottom of it is now inop, which is fine by me... well worth the end result - NO MORE ANNOYING SNAP !

Yes the snap can be a rude awakening. In any module using that mechanical switch.
Glad you where able to make it quiet as the optional output was not needed in your installation.
You could also do that in an RR501 if you needed to use unit 1 and 9 that is switch selectable.

NO MORE ANNOYING SNAP !

Might not be such a bad idea to mark the TM751 "outlet disabled" with a sharpie. These devices will out last us.

An excellent idea... just like marking the softstart modules similarly (I got THAT idea from you Dave)

Good idea Dave.
I mark all of my subjects of modification. So if my memory fails. I have somewhat of a clue.  :'

A Sharpie?

Isn't that why they invented the P-TOUCH ???

It's like Factory Labeling!   ;D

This is a definate plus - I did my first 751 mod this morning, then found this post lol.

The easiest way I see to make the unit obviously modified is to just remove the on/off button that is on front of the unit - good way to show it has been changed, just my $0.02
