Control driveway lights based on time and door status
« on: January 11, 2011, 03:15:49 PM »

Narrative:
I love my girlfriend, but she is a bit of a clutz.  When she backed out of her garage door, and into another car in our driveway the other night, I figured it was time to do something about that.

The general principal is pretty simple.  The light is on for convenience and security purposes from dusk to midnight.  After midnight, it is on a motion sensor (not listed here).  Basically what this setup does is if somsone opens the overhead garage door to back out, pull in, whatever, the driveway light will go on and stay on until it is closed.  Once the door is closed, the light stays on 15 mins, then shuts off.

Components
   I5 (XPS3 driveway light)
   DS10A on overhead garage door

Timer 1 - Driveway Light
Conditions:
I5 on from Dusk to 11:59 PM

Macro 1 - Garage Door Opened
Trigger Conditions:
DS10A from garage door sensor triggered
   Time: Between Dusk and Dawn

Actions:
   I5 ON

Macro 2 - Garage Door Closed
Trigger Conditions:
DS10A from garage door sensor closed
Time: Between 12:01 AM and 7:00 AM

Actions:
   Delay: 15 mins.
   I5 OFF

I hope it will help keep the costs of repairing other peoples' cars down in the future :)

What happens if the garage door is closed during the time the light is normally on? Will it shut the light off after 15 minutes?

Actually the Garage Close macro will only send the OFF command after the time period where the timer controls the light.  The Garage Open macro will send the I5 on anytime between dusk and dawn, so it if the light is inadvertantly turned offf, the macro will turn it back on.

Thanks for another nice writeup. Once I get around to cleaning the garage out and put the car back in it  rofl I'll put this macro to use.
