Interference from Electric Company "Meter"

I have had X-10 units installed for over 10 years now !!  In the beginning it was a PIA "Pain in the Ass" but via xperts.. like all you other folks, I finally have a system that WAS working well.... except for the wife who seems to have trouble with the wall switches.  lol

The current problem is that SDG&E just replaced our electric meter with a "remote" monitoring capibility and all of a sudden, lights are going on and offf at all hours of the day and night.

HEELLLPPP!!!!

I tried to reset macros, deleted some timers, nothing has helped....  I did install the "filter" a long time ago and that got me working, what now??

My WAG is that the meter is not doing it, only because X10 PLC signalling has been around since 1979, anybody using powerline signalling would want to stay away from X10 PLC protocol since the signalling from the meter could be effected by the X10 signals.

Having said that, I would call SDG&E right away and ask them if their meter is causing it.

If so,  you might be able to stop the interference with a PZZ01 whole house blocking filter. Maybe you could get the power company to pay for PZZ01 and installation if approached from the angle that if their meter is effecting your X10, then your X10 is likely effecting their meter signalling.

I have had a remote monitoring meter  for several years now. It has not caused any interference. It's an ABB CellNet meter.

By the way, my SAN friend tells me he is paying $0.27/KWH before taxes and other stuff.  Last month, with taxes included, I am  paying $0.038/KWH. That includes discounts for residential heat pump and residential electric water heater.  I also get a $20 annual rebate for allowing the electric utility to turn off my heat pump during peak load periods in the summer.

At some point, remote monitoring is going to result in peak usage pricing, which I am totally in favor of.

Not to give you a hard time... but that sounds kinda silly to me. "Peak usage" is a term that more simply put... just means "when people need it most". By people... we generally mean families. So.. your in favor of high costs for the electric used to enhance the lives of children? Are you just mean?

Concerning remotely read meters and X10 - I've run into this myself. I had a TM751 that was plugged in to an outlet on one side of the house, with the meter right on the other side. Things would act very very strangely until I moved the TM751 in question. It's worth looking at any RF equipment you may have (TM751, RR501, CM15A, etc) and their proximity to the Meter. Then try disconnecting/unplugging one at a time until you see where the issue may lie.
