Hi folks, I'm having troubles converting a RR501 from 110v to 220v. On this page http://hack4life.pbworks.com/w/page/30349128/Converting-a-RR501-X10-RF-Transceiver-to-220v I describe the whole procedure with pictures.

I basically followed Ido Bartana's instructions to deal with the new power supply design. The mod is successful but after a couple of months the unit stops working. Upon inspection I see that the CC supply voltage is around 2v when it should be 18v. Although there are no visibly burnt components I'm assuming that something is drawing more current than what the CC supply can provide and therefore the voltage is dropping. I have modified two RR501 with similar procedures and both suffered the same problem (i.e. they stopped working after a couple of months).

Any thoughts on why the mod is failing?

07J40 is a date code for 2007. Somewhere in the time frame where X10 was redesigning modules.

Does the new RR501 have a surface mounted controller IC? Doesn't look like it from your photos.

I downloaded your pdf version of the pages and will give it a look.

I have not found a schematic of the revision you have but looking at a few of your photos.
I have a few things you may want to look at.
D16; ZD4 and ZD1.

Can't see the R# but it looks like there is a small value 1/2 watt resistor near them. It also may have to be made larger in value.

I am going to get a newer revision one to look at and evaluate. I may have added data at a later date.

I got a new one today.
Date Code 10G28.
PC Board 10432K
Note the voltage on the main power supply cap {470uf 50V} is now 40 volts. Not 18 volts like the older ones.

I would check the fuse {F near the neutral AC input pin}, ZD1 and ZD4 {they are in series with each other}, D10, C31, R22 and the main filter cap {I didn't see a C number on the board}.
There looks like there are other Zener Diodes on the board for the voltages needed by the ICs.

You may want to try changing R22 from 100 Ohms 1/2 watt to a 220 Ohm 1 watt.
