LM15 modules with E26 LED bulbs
« on: March 25, 2011, 03:27:40 AM »

I`m new to X10 stuff, I recently bought a load of LM15`s and was planning to use them to control the LED lights in my apartment.  The bulbs are the multiLED type 220v E26, I setup the LM15`s and they turn on/off fine; but some of them cause the LED bulb to smoke...  After removing the 'smoking' bulb from the LM15 and replacing into the socket directly (no LM15) the bulb now seems dimmer.  I opened up one of the bulbs and they have a small PCB inside with a few components on them and couple of big resistors.  Can anyone give me any comments/advice as to how to proceed?

I`m assuming the LM15`s have some how damaged one of the components in the bulb...?

Thanks, James

220 Volts?
So you are using the LM15E and it fried some of your LED bulbs.

The official word is incandescents only for both our LM15A and the 220 volt European LM15E modules.

Even though they don't dim. They use an electronic device to switch the load on and off. It can react with the electronics in some bulbs that are not incandescent.
Sounds like yours are one of them that do not work well with an LM15E.

Does the LM15E still work? We have problems sometimes with a load damaging the module and it then will not turn off.

Users here have had similar results. Some bulbs are OK while others are not.

Maybe try a different bulb model or go incandescent though that is not energy conserving.

The other possibility is some of the LED bulbs where just plain defective and may have smoked even directly in a lamp fixture.

Brian,
Thanks for that..I have been using the bulbs (without the LM15`s) for nearly 9 months so I don`t think they are faulty.  The LM15`s still work and can be turned on/off...  Maybe I will have to try a few different brands of LED bulb to see if I can find suitable ones.  Does anyone have any advice on which brands of LED bulb they get to work in LM15`s?
