x10 switch wont work after blown breaker/fuse
« on: April 11, 2011, 05:48:51 AM »

One of my x10 light switches wont work after we blew a breaker switch on sat, ever since the blown fuse we are unable to turn the light off with the switch at all, other x10 switches on that breaker still work just not this one for this light, worst part about it is its our patio light so its always on now, unless we shut off the breaker than it goes off but so does everything else in the house, any ideas?

Sounds like the one switch failed shorted after it blew the fuse the first time. I would change that one switch.

If you can not turn it off. It has failed.
Probably a heavy overload that blew the breaker.
You should check the loads as part of the repairs.

What model switch?
It may have a small slide switch below the button you can slide to at least turn it off until it is replaced.

Well the slide switch on the botton should kill the circuit, but they are also known to break.
Use care as something shorted and tripped the breaker.

Just check the load real carefully. Someting had to trip the breaker and I don't think a blown switch would short hard enough to trip it.

yeah i know exactly what blew it bc we were fixing a flood light in the back yard and my dad took the bulb out and it sparked and blew the fuse but when i first reset it the power still worked as well as the switch than he changed the bulbs, and than i powered it back on and than is when it wouldnt shut back off so its kinda weird, hoping the new switch will fix it.

Sounds like the spark and surge took out the switch.
FYI that is what the small slide switch on the bottom is for. Turning it off disconnects the power to the switch for bulb changing.
Down side is they sometimes break.
