AHP on more than one pc on home network. Possible?
« on: May 21, 2011, 12:35:09 AM »

I have an extensive gigabit network at home and multiple HTPCs. I keep my desktop machine on most of the time, but the HTPCs are put to sleep. A couple of them have wall mounted touchscreens. The desktop PC is where I run AHP and have a CM19 connected.

I was wondering if I could run further copies of AHP on the HTPCs around the house, with additional CM19s or similar of course. Would they play nice with one another? If I used one to control a device, or run a macro, would the other instances of AHP be able to monitor the status of the wall switches, appliance modules etc.? It would be great to be able to control the whole house from a touchscreen. However, it would be of little utility on a day to day basis unless multiple instances of AHP could run in the house, because the PCs connected to the touchscreens are off/asleep >95% of the time.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

[edit] I should add that I don't mean to violate any licencing concerns, so that if the above would work and required multiple purchases of AHP, that's exactly what I would do.

Well........

multiple cm19s should play nice with each other, but the other half of the problem is the TM751.  Multiples of those do not.

If each cm19 could hit a single TM751 with their RF power, this will work out fine.  If not, you may have to switch to using RR501's for the transceiver.

I already run multiple AHP's on multiple machines, but each has it's own connected CM15a.

For the price that X10 sells the cm19a/AHP package,  I think it's a bargain to buy those for you machines, but I'd consider at least 1 CM15a/AHP package on one machine.

Thanks for the quick response. I got my AHP/CM19 during the free AHP promotion... while I was a total X10 noob. I have absolutely no objection to getting some of the RR501s. Incidentally, I think I do have two TM751s set to different huosecodes already... and have noticed no problems so far.

Since I'm still a relative noob, does the CM15 mean that an RR501/CM19 isn't necessary? Going to look it up now...

You might also want to check out iHouse.  http://www.ihousehomeautomation.com
It's designed to do exactly what you're talking about - a single "server" with the CM15A or CM19A attached, and multiple "clients" that communicate with the server over your LAN.  Only the server needs to stay on 24/7, the clients can come and go as needed.  It has a touch-screen oriented interface, supports X10 cameras, and it's FREE!

Yes the CM15A can replace both the CM19A with TM751.

It has a power line transmitter and receiver in it as well as an RF transmitter and receiver.
With the CM19A with TM751. You have no power line receiver or transmitter. The CM19A sends an RF command to the TM751 that sends a power line signal. The CM19A also has no storage in it for downloaded timers and simple macros.

And thank you for the info too, Brian. This is my first thread on this forum, and already I seen the folks here are very helpful. I'll fit in well here, I think.

You may also want to check out Myservant, this is a networked version HA that uses touch screens. It has a nice looking interface and has some great features such as power usage reports, weather reports, calendars and todo list to name a few.

Thanks, this looks like a more polished interface, and I may go this route after trying iHouse.
