Not allowed to enter reg codes after reinstall
« on: August 30, 2011, 02:10:52 PM »

I have attempted to reinstall Active Home Pro.  I found the procedure on the X10Wiki page.
But, in Vista I could not find the C:\Users\All Users folder so I could not kill the folders that are supposed to be there.

But after the reinstall, my screen shows everything as not registered and I am not offered any way to insert the reg codes.
After a few seconds, windows shuts Active home down.

The 800 number at X10 suggested that I uninstall the program and then empty the trash folder but that did not help.
Has anybody else seen this or am I still a lighthouse keeper?

Thanks

You'll need to enable viewing of system files and folders in vista.
Also you didn't state if you have 32 or 64 Bit vista.

I have the 32 bit and have just now enabled viewing of the system files.  Now that I can see these files what should I be looking for?  This still does not find users\allusers but the dude at 800 X10 did not think that was important.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm unfamilar with vista.  :(
However someone else maybe able to chime in.
The fact that a reinstall failed to pickup your registration codes from the previous install indicates they were not entered originaly or you correctly uninstalled.

Since you can't register anything now seems to indicate a install problem.
What plug-ins if any do you have?

Do the plugins show as installed, or not?
If they aren't registered, then installing them should produce a prompt to register them.
Did you reinstall the plugins after installing AHP?
Did you start AHP first, to make sure it ran, and THEN install the plugins?

Here is what came with the order.

1 ActiveHome Professional Computer Interface and USB Cable (CM15A) $99.99
1 Socket Rocket (LM15A) $19.99
1 ActiveHome Professional Software (SW31A) $49.99
1 Smart Macro Software Module for ActiveHome Pro (SW32A) $49.99
1 iWatchOut Software Module for ActiveHome Pro (SW33A) $69.99
1 myHouse Online Software Module for ActiveHome Pro (SW34A) $69.99
1 ActiveHome Pro - Home Security Solution (SW39A) $49.99
1 X10 ActivePhone (SW44A) $49.99

I did not install ahp and then run it first.  I installed all of the things before I ran the program.
The first screen shows all the plugins but they all show as not registered.

I have since installed just the ahp program and when I try to run it, it shows unregistered and I am unable to enter my reg.

Good news????

I just looked again and I now can see users\all users.  And in that folder the active home pro and the x10 settings folders appear.

So if I delete these two folders, will I be allowed to once again register my software?

Possibly. ???
I have hear issues with installing Activephone over AHP
If I recall Activephone includes ActiveHome Pro, installing both screws things Up.
Someone may chime in if that isn't the case as I don't have ActivePhone.
Generaly ActiveHome needs to be installed first then the plug-ins.
I always register as I install before moving on to the next plug-in.

Well I sure will install things one at a time when I do it again.  But all is not roses.  The instructions say to go to c:\users\all users\appdata.

I was excited to find the all users folder earlier.  Now I see it does not include an appdata folder.

The folders that are called out to leave do exist however in the all users folder.  So now all I have to determine is if deleting these folders will do the job.  But I bet asking the 800 people will not get me an answer.

Program data has an application data folder that I cannot open.
Program data also has an active home folder and an x10 settings folder.

The instructions say to kill these folders in c:\program files\common files.

I wonder if having these files still alive in program data is what is killing my reinstall.

Both of these folders are mostly bin files.

I have finally been able to reinstall my active home pro.

I would suggest the following notes be added to the wiki page labeled ActiveHome Pro Reinstallation:

The write up warns that the all users file may be hidden.  But going to folders view and clicking the show hidden files is not enough.
To see the all users folder you need to allow viewing of system files.

And once you can see the all users file, you will find that the app data folder cannot be opened.  However, the files you need to delete are in the all users folder.

After that things run well enough to get you back to square one.  Good luck.
