My HTC phone with a 3500mAh battery charges via micro-usb in a couple of hours
(it came with a 1a USB charger and detachable USB  a-m to microUSB m cable).

I agree the next generation ought to use micro-usb vs mini-usb (as that has become
the new standard). And primary charge via micro-usb (even if has to be sleeping or
off for 'quick charge).

I'd like to see hard buttons for the android required keys and volume up/down.

I figured I'd post an update in case it may be of help to anyone. I have determined my issue with the tablet acting erratic when the charger is connected is indeed a faulty charger. I was able to find a type A barrel connector to test the unit using a universal adapter I had around and it is working perfectly fine as of now.  :)%
