Google Play on AirpadXL manual install
« on: May 02, 2012, 03:57:46 PM »

I was able to find the Google Play App file and install it on my AirpadXL running GB 2.3 and it seemed to install properly and without problems, I was able login to my Google Play account and see all my programs I had downloaded when I had ICS running on the XL I had before I sent it back for a replacement and I was even able to download and start installing a program but as soon as it tried to finish installing the progams it would crash and not install the program.

First u need to be willing to reflash device if something goes wrong....
if in doubt of any step please ask for clarification.
follow this link and download the file http://www.box.com/s/8obf8i5dj34cljq6axtk
The file u download "com.android.vending-1.apk" needs to be renamed to vending.apk(see below)

go to http://www.freewarelovers.com/android and download/install
Android Terminal Emulator and File Expert
open the Terminal Emulator app and type su then hit <enter>, if u see the # then u have root privileges.

type the follwing commands
cd / <enter>
chmod 777 system <enter>
chmod 777 system/app <enter>

hit the home key and start up the File Expert app
it will open and list the folders on ur system
navigate to the system/app folder
on far right side of app bar u will see a plus sign
hit the plus sign and it will open a tab for you
in that tab navigate to ur vending.apk file (default was /mnt/sdcard on mine)
if file has not been renamed rename it now using file expert
after file is renamed select the check box on right then hit copy
select the first tab where u should have navigated to ur /system/app folder and hit paste

reopen the terminal emulator program type
su <enter>
cd /system/app <enter>
chmod 644 vending.apk

on my XL all files in the app folder were owned by user bluetooth so i just followed suit, u may not have to do this but mine works and it has not caused any problems.
if u type ls -l <enter> u will see a list of all the files and who owns them.
to change owner type
chown bluetooth vending.apk

if all went well when you reboot u should have google play working.

Ok this didn't work....

first of all the instructions for Google Play Hack
"chmod 644 vending.com"

vending.com doesn't exist - do you mean vending.apk?

Tried this "chmod 644 vending.apk"
then added a
I think you need a "reboot" command after that

then I think it works... still testing...

Didn't need to get into Owner Stuff - couldn't get that to work anyway...

Note from H - the line SHOULD be - - "chmod 777 vending.apk"

If anybody "consoldates" these instructions they should be updated.

I am building a word document with "hacks" and updates with corrections as I do them.

As far as I am concerned the version to install is 4.0331 - - the one H put in his drop box for you.  You will have to do a "keyfix" but it isnt' that bad.  4.051 (not sure of the exact number) the one that is the beta of the X10 software - is a piece of junk.  It crashed under a bunch of applications and the keyboard went crazy on me.

4.0331 is perfect - I have had no crashes at all.   Everything runs fine.

Can anyone post what the responses should be in the emulator when I enter commands (chmod 777 , etc)
I can't get this to work on my AP 7P ICS for anything. Must have tried 50 times and followed all instructions.

BEFORE I START REPLYING, REMEMBER, THIS HAS BEEN DEVELOPED FOR THE XL. I WOULD SEARCH FOR 7P SPECIFIC MODS.

There is no response if the command is entered correctly.
Are you remembering that when you open the Terminal Emulator app you must type su then hit <enter>? This must be done to enter superuser mode to get the proper privileges to do the job right.
if u see the # then u have root privileges.  If you see $ then you forget that step.
